Santec fixtures are defective

We bought a lot of Santec plumbing fixtures when we updated our bathroom a few years ago and the company will take no responsibility at the degradation of the finishes - they look bad and started to soon after install. Their policy is some BS too.
See photos - maybe we can save someone else from using this awful company.

It looks like a hard water problem to me.

We don’t have hard water and have a whole house water filter. This started right after install even after cleaning with their suggested method

It looks like only the polished chrome, polished nickel, and satin nickel finishes have a lifetime warranty. All other finishes are ten years. How long have you had them?

We’ve had them since 2022 so not long and their response to me was really pathetic too.

So is the finish peeling? It is hard to tell from the photos.

Yeah it basically is just wearing right off - not even peeling but just like a sunburn - exposing a new layer under it

@Dana Kurzawa That's crazy. That's a lot of discoloration. What excuse did they give you for not covering that under the warranty?

They sent me a photo of their warranty which I will post but not sure if you can see it - it’s obnoxious !

"Our genuine gold finishes are "Living Finishes""

There is their out. Living finishes are just that, they will patina, they will tarnish. That looks extreme to me and indicates a problem but that is their out, and it even states the finish is not a warranty item, which is standard with living finishes.

Unfortunately you will be out of luck. It says right on their website: All gold finishes will wear with time. Gold plating is delicate and requires careful handling and cleaning. The rate of finish deterioration depends on various factors such as the conditions and frequency of use, exposure to climate moisture, chemicals, and other environmental factors.

Santecs Living finishes change and age over time because they use unsealed or soft natural metals that react to daily use, touch, and air. Do not let water spots dry on the fixture. Water deposits are very damaging especially if allowed to dry. After each use wipe down surfaces with a dry soft clean cloth.

This is absolutely ridiculous though - they make fixtures to go in a shower and bath - of course water will be on them constantly and we do clean them
Appropriately but who is wanting such a precious finish for a bathroom ?? It looks like it’s only made for display and not for daily use. I’m so angry with this. I hope no one buys their products in gold. We bought from a reputable vendor and never at any time did they ever tell us this either and won’t take any responsibility either. I even asked if it was durable and easy to maintain and they said yes of course and use this product etc. we followed that and it degraded fast anyway.

Of course it is ridiculous but it is not like they tried to hide anything. It is clearly spelled out. It appears the vender is not familiar with living finishes. From my Brady Bunch days...Caveat emptor!

You have a few choices. Make sure to dry it after every shower to keep it from getting worse, just let it go and keep doing what it is doing or replace it all.

Yes we are aware - we may replace it all just our second time trying to deal with it and it’s not going any better but this time at least they sent the actual warranty info. The customer service rep on email is argumentative and rude also. Says a lot about a company.

That's unfortunate that customer service is rude. Maybe an email to the CEO will help?? It has worked for us in the past. My husband is relentless.

Ha that is a good idea! Thanks - will pass it to my husband - he’s good with this stuff
