If they are yellowjackets, they will chew through the wood within several weeks. Then, it sounds like, they'll be indoors.

If they are honey bees, blocking them in means that their stored honey will spoil, ferment, ooze out, soak the wall and create all sorts of problems in the wall that will require extensive repair work.

Better to contact a pest control company who will deal with them now.

You'll need to phone around because not every pest control company will deal with stinging insects in a structural wall.

Check in your local area for bee enthusiast groups. You might find some people who will help you out for free in return for free bees. But if it involves cutting into a wall, some might be reluctant to do this if they are responsible for repairing the wall. The group(s) might also have members who will do it for a fee that could be less than a professional bee remover would charge.

As to pest control companies...even if you don't abhor the idea of killing the bees, consider that you have a 7 week old who might be exposed to the chemicals that will be pumped into the wall if you go that route.

Also, some exterminators will just kill the bees without removing the honey (that would be less expensive obviously), and as mentioned 20-50 lbs of honey without bees fanning it to keep it cool...well, it melts. And it can attract rodents, and of course, more bees.

Another idea, if there are no groups, would be to go talk to local bee keepers and see if they have any suggestions. You might find one who would like some free bees and has a handyman friend that he works with for this kind of situation.

Going to try contacting bee keepers to see if they would like them if honey bees since they are becoming scarce don't want to kill them.
