Start with a patterned rug to bring in some of the accent colors you want to use.

I like the dark and cozy look you have...I agree with W Brown above, that the rug itself should not be the accent color. I'm loving some of the irregularly shaped rugs I have lately seen.

Yes i was also going to say add a round rug with lighter neutrals to break up the dark. And of course additional colors in the rug. If you could try a lighter toned wood coffee table... Then accessorize with accent colors.

Thank you all for your wonderful ideas. I am planning on changing coffee table and updating with art work on the mantel and am planning on getting neutral chairs that will sit across from sofa. I brought home a rug and not sure if it looks to busy or if the eye would be drawn more to the floor than up. Trying to decide if I should make the rug more subtle and bring out color in pillows and accents. What do you all think?

IMO, I think the rug is nice

If you want to use red as your accent color, I think the rug is a great place to anchor that idea for the rest of the room.

I think the rug you bought is pretty but that the white background might be a bit too stark. What do you think of this from Overstock?

I'd prefer either a large graphic pattern or something more muted that picks up on the colors already in place. Don't get too busy next to the stone FP. Lighting seems to be missing here. I'd want the cabinet interior lighted and you need lamps.

I like the Loloi Eden rug similar tones to mine. this would look god with a lighter neutral chairs, and yes lamps and end tables or sofa table. I would also change your dining room curtains to something light and airy, yours look dark and heavy lending to the make the rooms look dark

I like how the rug you bought lightens up your space and also adds some pretty colors. I prefer it to other rugs that were suggested.
