Might have been me? I can't recall if I brought any to the spring swap but I have a steel blue grass, flat blades. If it was mine, I'm afraid I don't know a thing about it -- I got it at what was probably the first CT swap I ever attended, and it wasn't marked...

Great, Marty. Yes, it is steel blue with flat blades so it must be yours! Can you tell me anything about it? Height? Growing conditions? Spreads? Anything?

I ask because I just heard from Claire (in another post) and she suggested Leymus arenarius (Blue Lyme Grass) and said that "it's considered invasive in many costal areas." Hope this isn't the case because I live on a river.

I'll attach a photo of it in my ornamental grass/sedum bed. For me, it isn't hard to contain; it throws out runners that can come up at some distance (6-12 in.) from the main plant, but I just pull them out. Otherwise, it stays in a sprawly looking clump. I've had it where it is for about 8 years so that will give you some idea (though I do pull a few runners each year).

It gets to about half the height of the 'Morning Light' and the 'Karl Forster' in that bed (you'll see them too in the photo). It's not as high as Northern Oat Grass, either. It certainly does resemble the Blue Lyme except that I cannot ever recall seeing spikes (plumes) of any size on it. I'm going to watch it more carefully this summer but nothing visible yet in the way of a plume... I'll attach a couple of photos of it from today. I've had no trouble containing it but if you're worried, maybe keep it potted for this year? See what it does? Sorry I can't help more! I remember grabbing it from the swap table because it was such a gorgeous color and I was just starting this bed, never having done grasses before.

Yes, Marty... that's it! I must have acquired from you. Mine looks just like the one in the bottom photo. It certainly is a glorious color ... sprawling in habit... no plumes that I've seen ... with a flat leaf blade as in the top photo.

The fact that that's what it looks like after 8 years of growth tells me that it shouldn't be feared. As for pulling out "runners"... there's no runner in my garden worse than Nepeta. For now I'll keep 'The Nameless One' where it is and transplant in the spring.

Okay... to turn this thread back to the original discussion of a fall swap, I don't have much to share. Things that have annoyed me (Nepeta, for example) have been pulled out and things I love have suffered in this heat. But I do agree with Hedy... it's fun to get together.

I'm just lurking in the background to see what date you all decide on. I haven't divided anything this year. Been working inside my house transitioning to my downstairs apartment and it's more work than I thought.

I'm always up for a get-together! Might not have a lot to bring, but I'll still be there! :)

I'm in Waterbury and need to move this weekend. I have a nice collection if Hoyas, Rhypsalis (I'm sure I spelled it wrong) and a few other plants, I can't take with me. It's breaking my heart to part with them. Please Facebook message me. Completely pest free & healthy. I also have some aloes & cactus. I also have perennials.

Dory, please consider contacting Habitat for Humanity in New Haven. I've worked with them and they are always looking for donated plants, and some of the builds are almost ready for plantings. I can give you the name of the person in charge of planting there and we could come pick up the plants.
