I agree with crl! And what are your cabinets like?

I have the top ones- love them. Never caught on any pocket or other part of my clothing.

Here are a couple of photos. I used different sizes for different size doors, and went with all horizontal below counter level and all vertical above.

Bottom. The top ones would catch on clothes.

I've seen your kitchen pics & I vote for the top ones.

The bottom. I am just the right height for knobs and pulls with ends to catch my pockets. If you are tall it may not make a difference. I prefer the look of the bottom ones anyway.

I also have the top pulls and have never had one snag anything...love them! BTW, I am 5' 2" and haven't had a problem...not once.

I would actually look for something a little more interesting. You've got a lot of narrow uppers and a lot of linear shapes, so I think the bar pulls are going to just emphasize that shape. It will be a bit boring imo. I know you're picking out a gorgeous crystal chandy for your foyer, and I think your kitchen is going to need a little bling too.

I love the look of the top ones... but if possible, spend some time in a kitchen with that type to see if they'll catch on your clothes. I picked that style for a HW upgrade in my kitchen and it took about 20 minutes with DH to realize that we both lean on the cabinets enough to get caught on those protruding ends all. the. time. They're gone now.

Your home seems transitional to me and these pulls are contemporary. What have you selected for lights and backsplash?

I would want to soften the angles with some curves, even if it's just a plain pull with curved ends. Will you use one or two pulls on your large drawers? Have you seen the second pull in the large size? I thought I saw it somewhere and it looked chunky. Are you buying the pulls or do you have to go with the builder's choices? I can look around later today for examples.

For shaker cabinets, I will go with the top one...

Since you asked, I prefer the ones on the bottom, both for looks, ease of cleaning, and style. The top ones are definitely pocket rippers, and when they catch on something, not only will the easily replaceable clothing be damaged, but it's likely that the cabinet, drawer, tip-out or other kitchen fixture will be damaged with the force yanking sideways. My neighbor had the whole tip out in front of the sink torn off when a pocket ripper caught a pocket! Beware.

Bottom ones! I've seen those top ones everywhere! They are all over the place. Even in my bathroom which we redid a few years ago. I've seen them so often since then, I am even thinking of replacing them. I LOVE the bottom ones.

I will be buying my own pulls. I think my biggest drawers are 30'' or 33''. Should I do one big one or two smaller ones?

I am not sure what the sizes of my drawers are but I did one pull on everything. They are 3 3/4" center to center. I did not want to do one pull on the smaller drawers and 2 on the bigger ones, I wanted everything consistent. Here is a link to the ones I found quite inexpensive. I have ordered them already and they are really nice quality. I was worried for that price they would not be.

I'm having the same dilemma for my cabinet pulls. My second choice is from IKEA, and I think they will end up being my final decision, I definitely don't want to catch on my handles, as much as I like your first option. This seems to be a good compromise, and turns out to be cheaper than some of the ones I looked at at the box stores. Plus they come in longer lengths.

If you like pulls with a clean line, I'd use something like romy's Schaub pulls. They have a flattened face, which provides sparkle and shine and a soft curve. They are pretty jewelry that gets noticed whereas the bar pulls are like wearing a plain chain necklace. She used knobs for her uppers, which would cut down on the busyness of your kitchen with so many uppers.

You have a Spanish style front door with dark wood and wrought iron scrollwork, and you'll be having an elaborate crystal chandelier hanging in the foyer. Your permanent finishes need to reflect that feeling so that it doesn't feel disjointed as you travel through the home. The bar pulls are too plain and too modern. You need a little prettiness instead of utilitarianism. I really think the hardware can make or break your kitchen.
