A word about "Thai Socotranums" and the so-called arabicum cultivars/varieties. M. Dimmitt has commented on it before. This is probably a horticultural "training method" (pruning and wiring), not cultivars/varieties horticultural speaking. The growers select individuals with certain traits and then train them. "Thai Socotranums" propagated by seeds probably will not come true. For instance, when you buy "Golden Crown" seeds you might end up with something completely different from what you expected. ;-)

you know what i mean martin lol...VIRGIN roots never been sliced...that is why im done buying seeds lol, im just choosing the best ones for my own taste...but im crossing my fingers for this Golden Crown and Diamond Crown...hopefully i can get it, its from the first golden crown in thailand the grand champion, were my mentor went, and that nursery only specializes in this breeds,

you plant 1000s of seeds and you can only pick 10 seedlings that can get the trait of the mother plants, and the rest is trashed or sold in cheaper prices,

and this plant is a new hybrid from my supplier so im not sure how much seeds it took just to get some good ones like this

Exactly, Jericson. You can't just sow "Golden Crown" seeds and expect to grow nice-looking "Golden Crown" specimen in a few years. Like you stated, you probably have to sow endless numbers of seeds to get similiar traits of the mother plants.

That is such a beautiful specimen. It's because of people like your mentor that genetics are improving at such an impressive rate. Who knows maybe a little as 10 years from now you can plant "Golden Crown" and get 50% or more with direct traits. Thank you for sharing this, it gets me really excited for where this is all going.

Yes, with the Arabicums. They grow wide across the soil on a level plain. Do not produce tuberous type roots such as obesums.

My larger Arabicum specimen has a flat underside and the roots all come from the outer extremities. This plant has never had any root pruning or otherwise.

The large roots on Adeniums are called "Haddock roots" the others feeder roots.
