IKEA Gray Ringhult Cabinets?

We are a year into our complete house rehab right now, and are finally coming up on the kitchen design - the last room! We are thinking of going with the IKEA Ringhult cabinets in high gloss gray, and a white quartz countertop with some veins of gray, like marble. Dark wood flooring. I have a few questions and would love some input from anyone else who has used these cabinets!

1. We have 10 ft ceilings. We could stack a 40" and 20" cabinet, and I think that would bring us pretty close to the ceiling, but I'm afraid that will look too busy. It is a big kitchen (14x20). Only one corner would have upper cabinets, another corner only has space for a few small open shelves, one wall will have a high pantry and the other side wall will be completely built in with a 64" fridge, a tall pantry style cabinet beside it and small cabinets above the fridge. The sleek design of these cabinets doesn't seem to lend itself to adding any extra molding. Do you think it would look okay to have just the 40" cabinets, with almost two feet of open space above them?? I've heard mixed opinions as to whether the room looks taller with cabinets to the ceiling, or whether open space above the cabinets actually makes the ceilings look higher. Has anyone used any type of crown molding or trim with these? I'm afraid that just putting the 40" cabinets with the gap above and no trim is going to make them look cheap. I would love to see photos please!!!

2. We are doing regular cabinet style uppers, and drawers for the bottom cabinets, with large island of drawers in the center. It seems like in most of the photos I've seen of the Ringhult cabinets, people use handles on the drawers, but not on the uppers. Does this make them too hard to open? Again, would love to see photos if anyone has them.

3. My original plan had been to go with shaker style white cabinets, and a gray solid glass backsplash. Now that we've decided to go with Ikea cabinets, and like these gray cabinets the best of the Ikea options, I'm not sure what to do about the backsplash. I'm thinking maybe one of the textured white tiles by Porcelanosa. Would love to see ideas of what others have used as their backsplash with these!

4. I heard that Ikea cancelled the summer cabinet sale, but has anyone heard any announcements as to whether or not there will be a sale in the fall??

Thanks for the help! :-)

Amanda
