When hand-pollinating daffodils...

    I'll tell you what I learned the other day, ninecrow.

    When labeling the mother daffodils, don't use sticky labels on their flower stalks. They fall off. The breeze catches them. Pretty soon you are running around the garden looking somewhat demented.

    Use a plastic label and stick it in the ground next to the flower stalk that will (hopefully) produce seed.

    Write the labels out first, don't trust your memory. (Use a pencil because ink will fade.) (Memory fades a lot faster.)

    I used a cotton bud to gather the pollen. But I've seen a youtube where the lady used a pen, rubbed on her trousers to produce static electricity.

    I chose a sunny morning when the flowers were fresh and new and looking particularly bright and alive.
