Need help identifying this weed....

Our yard (Eastern North Carolina area) is three year old centipede that was planted as sod. It has an irrigation system that provides water daily (unless it rains) before 1000 hrs. All over good, healthy grass. This weed (see picture) has begun to take over in large sections. I need help identifying this weed and if Pennington Weed Killer will be effective if applied as instructions on the bag.

I would be open to other suggestions on eradication of this weed.

Compare to Kummerowia. A pic of a plant still in place is usually easiest to recognize.

Pennington Weed Killer is a broad spectrum plant poison, 2,4,D, Mecoprop-p, and Dichloprop-p, meant to kill many broad leafed plants growing in turf grasses. I have not seen on the lable that Kummerowia is one of those plants, however.
