Is there any chance of some better photos? In focus picture of the seed pods and a view of the whole plant would be helpful. And are there any flowers left to see?

Here's another photo and one enlarged. It's past the flowering stage. I was mowing down weeds along the house foundation, so this and and any other plants near it are pretty chopped up now.

They look most like E.

The burs and their arrangement remind me of Virginia stickseed, Hackelia virginica. Those narrow leaves are atypical but they might just be bracts on a flowering stem.

Have you asked your local county extension office? They'd probably be able to tell you within seconds.

Bur Clover (Medicago hispida).

could it be that? Nope. Definitely not that.

Looked here. It just says the burclover and some bursage.

debodun - did you Google atlamol's suggestion of Hackelia? it looks like a candidate to me.
