I know that's a lot browner than yours, but I've found that pink beans and cranberry-type beans turn brown pretty quickly in storage. My trading friend said they are an excellent-tasting dry bean, one of her very favorites, and that they are productive and a medium-tall pole bean. She got hers from a market, as well (in Austria, though).

Is there any name for them in the local markets, or are they just "beans?"

Annette, yes, this is it, but Tashkent is just a city, where the woman got beans from.

sea_kangaroo, this is it too! I think browner color is a result of lower light when photo was made. One thing I can say for sure - taste is really excellent! I don't like dry beans all my life from childhood, neither it is in soup, nor as main or side dish. But now I love beans, and I can eat it, as I know beans are very healthy. So, now we know how it is called in Austria.
Locals in Ukraine call it "Little Red Riding Hood" or simpy Red Hat, but in ther language of caurse :) In Uzbekistan it is "Skirt", some people at small local markets call it "Penguin". But I think all these "national" names are far from original American name (it is known that the homeland of beans is America).

fusion_power, Papa de Rola is definitely relative of subject beans! Very interesting if they are such tasty!
