Thanks Oleg. Given the quality of some of the bulbs we got last year from various vendors, I wouldn't be surprised if some of these were hitch hikers that have just been hiding until I neglected the plants.

What can I advise in this case? Even buying a small number of new bulb I always treat them with insecticide to prevent the defeat of others. :)

I use the chemicals on the bulbs when they are moved from the greenhouse into the side yards. The bulbs were not moved, they were left on the back porch and thus they were not treated, THUS, that is why they have mealy bugs and the others do not.

I use the Bayer 3-in-1, it works wonders!

I agree with others - the Bayer 3 in 1 takes care of them no problem at all - just saturate the soil with it once a week for 3 weeks and your problem is over. I had a HUGE problem with these several years ago and got rid of all of them without losing a plant. I hope by now you have this under control :o) Dan

I got infested with mealy bugs inside of my house this year. I only have 3 amaryllus that live full time in a west facing window. I don't keep them outside because of the insects and I wasn't happy when the mealy bugs showed up. So I just took a qtip in alcohol and got all of them off. It took 3 tries to kill them all about a week apart. I can see why people like 3-1. I would use it on my hybrid tea roses and it took care of all the aphids that love them.
