Bosch induction cooktop 500 and 800 models, NIT8666UC vs. NIT5666UC

Does anyone know the difference between the Bosch 500 and 800 level models for the 36" induction cooktop? Do they both have direct select or is that only in the 800? So far the only thing I am seeing is that the 800 has auto chef. Is that useful or more of a gimmick?

Hope this response helps somewhat. I have a 30 " Bosch 500 series induction cooktop that does not have direct select and have been very happy with the ease when using the 500 series. The Bosch is consistently very touch responsive. One light tap stats the cooktop on level 4 and then a few more light taps up to 5 1/2 level. I rarely go above this unless boiling water as food tends to burn easily at higher settings. There is a place to tap slightly to the right which will start the hop at level 9 and then one can tap down a little if desired. I know this may sound confusing but it isn't. I figured it out immediately without even looking at the owner's manual. Even if i had money to blow, it would not go to a higher series cooktop as the 500 is so extremely rapid and easy to use.

You could go to the AJ Madison website and check out the owner's manual for the two models you are considering to answer you question regarding the differences. Also call the manufacturer for assistance if no one answers on this forum. Bottom line, you will love which ever Bosch cooktop that is selected.

I have an older Bosch 500 that does have direct select. Know thyself - it would drive me nuts to have to go tap-tap--tap up and down. Also, I use every level from 1-19 and boost. (For example, when making salmon filets, 2 minutes on 9, the rest on 6. If I started at 5-1/2, it would take 7 taps to go up to 9, and another 6 to go back to 6, with direct select, I tap "9", then "6". Obviously that's not a problem for other people, but it would be for me).

Any updates on your experience. I am about to buy the Bosch 500 series induction 24". Is the speedboost useful?

The product is an absolute disaster! I purchased a Induction Cooktop and it cooks unevenly and only in the center. NIT866UC. Customer Service is an even bigger joke. They should be ashamed for selling this product. There is no direct number that you can call and speak to someone who knows the product. I was advised to HAND WRITE a letter to the corporate office. DO NOT BUY ANYTHING BOSCH.

I found this comparison post about Bosch induction cooktops super informative! I think it depends on whether you want features like the designated cooking areas or the FlexInduction, and up/down buttons for temperature vs pressing the temperature level.

My complaints so far are that buttons are confusing. But speed boost is useful.
