Which fabric where please...

The flower material is very expensive and I was thinking about making a one sided pillow for each end of my sofa. I love the choral on the blue background and the houndstooth. I am not sure which one to use to recover the ottoman. I was going to make a slip cover and maybe use the choral on the top and a matching linen on the bottom in a box pleat. The striped material I was going to make 2 bolster pillows for my french chairs with chocolate velour fabric to tie it into the choral. What do you all think? Should I sue the houndstooth for the top of the ottoman or is it to busy and where can I use it? Bolster pillows and use a choral fringe?

Your fabrics are very nice! For the ottoman I would use the coral one..The houndstooth is busy and I think it would make you dizzy:)

As a stand alone item I LOVE the houndstooth fabric. For the purposes of working with your existing furniture, however, I would recommend the striped material!

Could the coral on blue work at your windows? Cornice or roman shades perhaps? I like the heavy stripe for your two chairs and the lesser one for lumbar (not bolster) pillows. I'd use the floral for the ottoman but ditch the houndstooth.

Design is often best as a gradual thing....... I would use the white coral on blue for the ottoman, the blue houndstooth on the two dark french armchairs. I would eliminate the white chairs at the end of the room in the one photo.... don't spend money on them, a more substantial single chair perhaps might be a better long term investment . THEN.... decide if you really need the expensive floral, and if you still do, yes, a pillow or two just fine: )!

Should I slipcover or taper the ottoman without a skirt ladies? I could use a cream colored cording. I do love box skirts!

Deco: The floral is $115.00 yd! It is also not so good to put your feet on so that is why I was thinking only a front side of a pillow on the couch. Also, I have such large pretty crown molding around my sliders that I can't do any drapes etc. I love the hounds tooth but I am not sure where to put it:( The fringe I have helps tie all the colors together also.

    Skirted ottoman I think.

I thought a bolster pillow would help tie in the colors and it is not as expensive. Maybe do a hounds tooth pillow on the sofa at each end?

I have this dark chest and I had the dark chairs to help balance the color. Is that the right train of thought? The bird picture has a small amount of the blue in it but no red or choral. My fireplace is choralish so I though I could tie that in - not that I need to. Also the 2 smaller chairs with the choral on them.. Great advice ladies!!

The dark chest isn't a "color" that needs to be matched. The two white chairs are perhaps best re located to another room. The french armchairs, would come alive, feel far less "serious" in the check. If you long for the splash of coral and blue TOGETHER in one fabric, I would not choose the silky floral, there are others out there with the combination of tones, that could suit a chair at the "bird picture" end of your room. and be less pricey and fragile as well. One "pair" of open armchairs is plenty in the french...the other end needs something more than the lightweight white pair, and that is where I would direct the $$$ for more impact and ....balance : ) The key being, take your time.

I really don't want to be 100% Coastal. Is it wrong to add a floral even though it has the Coastal colors? I don't mind the coral because it is pretty mild.

The only "coastal/southern' element in the room is the heron bird picture......which I am assuming you like? It's not a "wrong" to add a floral, but BEFORE you add that silky one, I would do the french chairs, do the ottoman, look at a different chair with a more "solid" upholstered feel for the other end of the room. First choose a fabric for that chair, perhaps a pale tone of the blue....and THEN decide, do I need the expensive floral as pillows? The fireplace brick doesn't need to be acknowledged as a "color" ......add coral, if you love the color...not because of the brick. And I would not add stripes, they are already tone on tone in your sofa fabric

I just love all these fabrics. The discussion is interesting. For some reason I tend to go for the houndstooth for the ottoman ! I don't think it's busy because the colour is soft ; it will add a french flair to pair up with your chairs ! and beside you can add a tray or something like that and it will have another purpose. I will go with the flower for the cushions and the stripe for the french chairs, that will be very nice the one against the other. But the choice is yours at the end !!!

I'm glad you like my suggestions Christine and rouxb. The ottoman will be a conversation piece, believe me. I'm not afraid to add texture and colour as long as they have a link with each other. In your case, it's even better because you have them coordinated. I agree to use a less expensive fabric in the back of the cushions but to splurge with the beautiful one for what is visible. You can pull out the coral if you like that colour and use it as an accent. It will add ''peps'' to your room. I like your two white chairs and I will keep them (just add foam and new fabric and there you go) I'm keen on working on what we have and 'rebirth' them in some way. But I will place them on each side of the fireplace. I will have the dark furniture under the 'heron 'picture that you love. It's visually 'imbalanced' the way it is placed now. Please have a try, you might be surprised ! But you always have the option of buying new ones, it's really up to you....

The coral on blue appeared to be a chenille to me, so I was trying to get it in the space but not where it would be subject to wear. I think as inside mounted faux romans it would draw the eye up to your windows and add some softness, yet still expose all of your trim. If the houndstooth is the more durable of the fabrics, then it might work on the ottoman. It just seemed to be too small a pattern for that large a piece of furniture to me. Consider mixing up the French chairs; put the big floral on the back of the chair (not where you lean on it, but actually on the back of the back.) Then use one of the stripes on the back and the houndstooth on the seat. Take the same three fabrics to the sofa pillows.

Should I do the ottoman all in coral or top coral and bottom this linen with a box pleat on each end and maybe even a box pleat in the center on the long sides????

Here are my 16ft wide sliders with an inside height of 7' 11".

The blue coral fabric is very special & so is the floral. I would not use either of these for anything except one side of a pillow or perhaps for the lumbar pillows for one & an end of the sofa pillow for the other. You will not want this nubby fabric where someone may place their feet. I don't really like a skirt on your nice ottoman. I like the bun feet to show. I think a heavy practical fabric such as ultrasuede, perhaps in a stripe, on the ottoman would be best. Do go with a dark heavy piping on the ottoman and for the white French chairs, too. I think the houndstooth will work on the french chairs with a plain fabric on the backs of them.

This is going to keep your fabric costs down while giving you the soft pizzazz you want in the room. The white chairs could use a cushion just the same shape as the seat attached to the existing seat. Do it in a contrasting fabric such as charcoal ultrasuede piped in the color of the lower seat fabric.
