I would like your Friend that works for BM to elaborate why they dont recommend low sheen for floors?

My friend is not who doesn't recommend, she said the spec sheet for the low lustre product says it is not recommended... Sorry that wasn't clear.

I've never used the stuff, BM is more a paint company in my eyes. Doesnt meant they dont sell a decent product.

Satin for a final sheen is absolutely recommend by me, and lots of other professionals.

What does the "spec sheet" recommend for a sheen level then?

I don't want Gloss, I want a satin finish but the satin product spec sheet specifically says "not recommended for use on floors". The gloss does not say the same. I have read the gloss contains more solids and is therefore "harder" so it seems to make sense.

I am just curious to hear people's opinions before I return what I have and decide which less readily available product I use.

I wouldnt recommend gloss either. I've been a hardwood professional for over 10 years, everything about BM just seems sketchy to me. like i said before i've never used their product and have no opinion on it one way or another. But i also dont want to see someone use a product and potentially be unhappy with the results.

I use Bona, Glista, and Duraseal products. All three are a staple in the hardwood floor industry. Which is best is more an opinion, but all three are perfectly suitable for any refinishing project.

All Three brands are readily available either in store or online. I know many of the other professionals on here that post will also agree that they are fine products, and also would probably recommend any of those three over BM.

No matter what product you do decide to use, i hope it turns out well for you and you are happy with the results!

HAve applied the Stays Clear by BM, Gloss finish on my floors. LOVE It. Have applied multiple coats and my floors glisten with beauty. Non yellowing, with floors that pop With high definition. THey always look great.

My client wanted her stairs done in a Low to flat polyurethane to mimic her hardwood floors. I chose BM Stays Clear, FLAT on the entire staircase.The stairs are pine, the landing newels are a combination of red and white oak glued together down the center.. They turned out great. Note the newel ....this is probably what your white oak floors will look like...only better. This newel has about or more than 5 coats of plolyurethane. Love this product. Once tried an oil based polyurethane .....and had to redo the work as it gave an amber tint to the floor .....great if we wanted that look and noticed that any pooling looked Orange. Any seams gather excess, so an oil base on a very light flooring is not kind. PS. I added some color shadings on the treads before applying the Stays C;ear In order to hide the many flaws.

Thank you, glad to know someone has used this with success. How many coats did you use, any sanding needed between the coats? Why does BM say NOT FOR FLOORS? I have an email message asking them, they have not replied.

Very light sanding between the 3 coats , . I ignored the info on the can NOT FOR FLOORS, and have not seen or heard about any problem since this project was completed 5 months ago; saw it a few days ago and all is well. If this was a bigger project might have enquired., .

This is important. In my experience, the product drys quickly ...gloss and flat. I used an excellent quality paint brush, not a sponge roller as it bubbles, and always maintain a wet edge, particularly with floors to avoid overlapping marks. Youll need to work quickly And occasionally very qently stir the can...avoid air bubbles .. USE TAC CLOTHS Between applications after sanding.

How did this turn out? Getting ready to finish my floors with the Flat

I used the BM stays clear on top of a table i built, then did light coat of white stain to prevent the pine from yellowing. i wasted time trying to use minwax polycrylic and it kept bubbling, watery, thin. Ive made and finished furniture over many years using minwax oil based polyurethane with beautiful results. but i really wanted a light and non yellowing finish with this table. after many attempts and sanding/statting over, i finally bought stays clear BM. i was instantly in love. it went on so smooth and provided a glowing finish more similar to the oil based, but without yellowing. i think i ended up doing like 8 coats tho with light sanding in between. 5 years later the table is still glowing, so so beautiful, dont think its yellowed at all. when people come to my house they dont really notice the Other furniture ive built with darker stain and oil based poly. but everyone tends to be so amazed by the finish on this table.

now we are renovating and doing wood floors in a newly built master bedroom, closet, and play room (will cover with foam tiles). I’m considering having them make the floors with finished pine plywood just like my table. certa certainly would be unique. hoping ben moore stays clear is stong for floor (will use gloss).

anyone know if it holds up on wood floors over time?
