I thought about it and it makes sense either way. Are you mounting the faucet through the stone or through the sink?

If you have a pull down faucet are you mounting it in the middle? The larger side is for filling and washing big pots and pans. The smaller side is where you scrape and rinse your dishes before you put them in the dishwasher; and where you prep veggies. The side with the disposal gets the ickiest so maybe better smaller?

suzyq53. Thanks for the info on sink usage. I have got to tell my husband who is the main pot cleaner and dish scraper that he's been doing it all wrong!! Lol

I have my disposal in the side where I wash dishes. The other side has my dish drainer in it - so no disposal there. I guess it depends how you use your sink.

Glad for the discussion of sinks. I just bought a cast iron sink with a big side and small side and low divide in between. I've been trying to decide which side I think the disposal should go on. Hope I Didn't make mistake getting a divided sink even though it is low and has a large side. Wanted the low divide for large pieces to fit and the divide for disposal on small side. Need to think about how I will best use.

Well, it's pretty, but honestly it has a lot of variation and movement, and you explicitly said you didn't want to compete with the stone of your counters. Plus, on my monitor at least, it looks a little too blue for the gray of your stone.

I would look at that big vein in the front of the photo you've posted and find that exact shade of gray, preferably in glass but regular tile ok. It will give more contrast to the cabomets, let the counters shine, and give a little warmth as well (as it seems to be a warm gray).

Oh my that clashes. You need something solid not to compete with the countertop. If you do decide to use the backsplash suggested, make sure you choose an installer that is a guru at installing marble tile. The grain or pattern should always go one direction. Otherwise it will look like an amateur installed it. Since the counter is already installed, the countertop has already established the direction of the grain. As you have it now, which I completely understand was to simply show the color/style and not to impress the grain-police, the grain is going in at least 2 directions.

mxc6141- Only you can determine if it is "too blah". All of us can post suggestions but you need to establish the look that you are going for whether it be to "match" the counter top" or to "blend" with the countertop or the "contrast" the top.

It is called Caribbean Green tumble stone but I have so many reservations about it. Everyone keeps telling me that "glass" is going out of style. This has been the hardest decision and I think I am driving everyone crazy.

Glass is not going out of style anytime soon. Glass subway shape is pretty classic. Hope ceramic subway goes away and never comes back. Where is the rest of your slab? Can you run it up the wall? Otherwise silver glass all one color would be great. On my monitor, the stone tile looks like a different color than the slab.

Ceramic subway has been around since the late 1800s. Glass is a bit more trendy but I don't think it's going anywhere either. If you choose a good company like Fireclay or Encore, they do glass and ceramic so well that you will have a hard time making a decision.

This is basically the same marble as the one the designer chose, but in square tiles. If it is the look you wish, then use the one you like with your counter top. Everyone's suggestions are good. It's YOUR kitchen and you must love it!

Regarding the color clash as someone said...what shows on the computer monitor may not reflect the color you perceive in the room. You and your designer need to make that determination, not anyone else! Also the direction of the veining isn't important when you are using tiles. It's a concern when installing whole slabs. The tile man would go crazy trying to match up the veining using small tiles!

In any case I think either marble backsplash looks great!

Hi mxc6141. Here's my 2 cents. I feel there is a few issues pressuring you. First, the floor is a warm color. Everything above it is a cool color. That makes it "float". Place whatever you're planning on the counter, coffee pot, toaster, a bowl of fruit, etc with no black splash. Back away and study where your eye goes first. Take a breath and don't feel pressured into making a decision until you're ready. Run from subway tile! Your second choice of squares was okay, but place them on their ends-diagonally-diamond look gives them a whole new vision. A matching grout will blend, a darker shade will make them 'pop' taking away from your counters. Then lastly, consider larger tiles. 6x6, 8x8, 12x24 or no tile at all and go with something else. Can you live without backsplash for a few weeks? All of our suggestions are just that. Suggestions. And men and women see things differently. In the end you're not only paying for the product, you have to live with it, not us! Good Luck!

The square tiles look like a shower floor! What the designer picked looks good. If you go with something similar to the counter you can't go wrong. Just don't go too small with the tiles. These are laid in a herringbone pattern.

Here's a thought. . Don't know if it's been suggested. Paint an area of your backsplash in a color you are considering for tile. .. If there are several colors paint several areas. At least 1 or 2 ft square and fairly close to counter top. Then see if u like one better than the other and use that color to help dictate your tile choice.

Check out the gray glass tile in this kitchen we did in Manhattan Beach project. If you don't want busy, it might be a more modern way to go with a less busy backsplash.

The direction of veining absolutely matters when it comes to tiling marble. Like every stick of wood flooring, marble is a natural product with subtle differences in color and pattern on each tile; you don't just throw it on the wall (unlike ceramic tile) and hope it comes out looking right. The smaller the tile, however, the less the subtleties are apparent, such as the small square mosaic you most recently posted. The individual tiles are too small to reflect a specific direction of the grain; nor would anyone, except the most anal retentive homeowner, pull each tile from the mosaic to achieve a more specific look.

Taking my time and just keep looking seems to be the best suggestion. I absolutely love my new cabinets and especially love the granite and don't want to make a mistake with the backsplash

I have ordered samples of a light silver cloud grey 4 x 12 in glass tiles. Hopefully this will be the one...simple, clean, and not busy. But can you mount a hood on the glass tile? Also should I tile around the window?

Here are 3 pictures of projects that we did that show different ways to handle the tile around the window. It is a matter of preference and how you want the window to look. At least this way you can see it in different applications. Hope it helps.

I think your larger format gray glass tiles will look amazing. I would tile around the window. As for disposal location, mine is on the large side for scraping/rinsing and washing pots. In fact, I made my plumber change it after a couple of days and realizing I hated it on the small side.

I am changing my disposal to the larger side too. Just don't like the small size for it

Your kitchen is beautiful. I love the glass tiles. I just remodeled my kitchen which is similar to yours...wood floors, white cabinets and granite countertops. I still haven't picked out a backsplash so was excited to see your finished project. What size are those tiles. In the picture, the lower ones look narrower than the upper rows.

The tiles are all the same size 4 x 12. They are just beautiful. It was the hardest decision for me and I am so happy with the choice that I made. Be sure to have the glass cut around your window if possible. It just makes a spectacular looking kitchen.

What is the countertop used? I love it!

Sure I am too late to make a diff but think this reflection moonstone would play beautifully off of the countertop and hardware. It would compliment it but stand on it's own as well...

I have wood floors in my family room. Is it necessary to have an area rug under my coffee table? I have 2 small messy dogs and the rug always looks dirty to me. It is an oblong glass coffee table

Hi! I love the way your backsplash turned out. Very nice kitchen! As for your coffee table/rug question, a rug generally shouldn't go just under a coffee table, but should be sized appropriately for the room. I bet if you include some more pics, and maybe even post it on a new dilemma, you will get lots of help.
