Before and After Kitchen Remodel: A Dramatic Change

last modified: 11 years ago

When Hal & Jean Krisle purchased their 1950's home in Cottonwood Heights, Utah, the first thing on the To Do List was remodeling the kitchen. A year and a half later the project is complete after months of drafting plans, selecting materials, and the final living-without-a-kitchen 11-week self-contracted owner-designed demo/remodel project. Combining a small dining room, a smaller kitchen, and a backdoor/nook area, the broken up space was transformed into a functional kitchen, complete with a flat screen TV. Not only do the Krisle's cook and entertain in their new kitchen, they also eat at the drop leaf table and easily complete projects on the long expanse of granite countertop. Two months later Jean says, "It was a labor of love and worth every inconvenience along the way." Completed for less than $20,000 including appliances, this total remodel (floor to ceiling, literally) the new kitchen is a dream come true for the Krisle family.

Very nice! How did you keep within that budget? We are about to gut the kitchen, move plumbing, tear down a load bearing wall, get all new appliances... All within a $25K-30K. We are doing almost all the work ourselves. We are getting Conestoga RTA cabinets which will save us a lot of money.
