If the pods are ripe they should be brown and brittle and split open on their own. If they're not doing this they aren't ripe. If they are brown and brittle but for some reason haven't split just rub them between your hands.

yes, but I have so many my fingers are getting sore. I was hoping of a better idea besides purchase equipment in the hundreds to thousands of dollars....but thank you for your response though as it is really appreciated!

If the pods are are dry then a rolling pin on a bread board. Then a sieve. But I'm still wondering if you've picked them too soon as they should split by themselves and release the seeds.

I'm trying to imagine how many you have and what you are going to do with them all??

I have over a half full large garbage bag of them. I have about a quarter of them completed thus far, but geez.....I don't want this many rather I wanted to share them with others. But this is like way too much work!!! Do you want to help?

I'm sure you're aware that the resultant radishes from home gathered seed will not necessarily be much like the parents. So you can't label them with the name of the variety you gathered from. If the seeds are for giving away how about just giving the pods and telling the recipients how to clean their own seed? Or you could do what I do with chard and kale which is to cut the branches with the seed pods and just lay them in a line on the ground. The seed drops out onto the earth and then you just weed out the seedlings you don't want. I use the branches to protect newly sown peas or beans from birds. By the time the peas are finished there is a row of chard/kale coming up in their place ready to utilise the nitrogen from the decomposing legume roots.

Put them in a pillow case and walk on them to crush the pods and release the seeds. Then just sift and winnow out the chaff.
