Help on placement of light fixtures(sconces)

Is there a "rule of thumb" for placement of sconces on either side of bathroom vanity.

Vanity is 50" wide, the mirror is 26 1/2" heigh and 42" wide. The fixtures are 2 3/4" X 13".
