Decor requests for a small entryway

I'm having problems trying to decorate the entryway to our home and an happy for suggestions! First, while this is the front door to our home, it's not used every day. Most family enter through the garage, so this isn't a high traffic area. The problem is the door opens in and then takes up about half the length of the entryway. Because of this, I think a narrow table or bench is out of the question. Secondly, there's a set of light switches to contend with. Again, they're not used often, and I can't rationalize the cost of moving them, but they're another component of me being stymied. I tried just putting up a large mirror, but it looked weird. There is a small closet to the right of the door, then the steps to the lower level. Thanks for your suggestions!

I would paint your switch plate the same color of the wall so it blends in. Then I would place 2 taller pieces of artwork or 2 taller mirrors of the same size on either side of the switch plate. A larger entry rug would also fill the space. There is not much room for anything more.

That was my first thought to paint the light switch blue, then I think I would do a floating shelf, not too deep with art or mirror over it. Even tho you don't use the door very much, I would get a bigger rug. The mirror should be narrow and tall and the shelf could run under the light switch.

Something like this - yours is not rustic tho. But gives you an idea. Shelf running under the light switch and could be hidden by a vase - as pictured.

Angel, thank you. I like the idea of the floating shelf. But wouldn't that look odd because of the shelves in the open area to the left?

Sorry, the "to the left" comment was somewhat obtuse. On the right of this picture is (part of) my entryway. To the left of that is the hallway to bedrooms, etc., To the left of that in the picture, is my great room. The plant, lamp, table, etc are in the great room. the set of two shelves are on the wall in the great room. I'm asking if it would look odd to have another shelf in the entryway since it's so close to the ones in the great room?

I would say no, in fact it probably would tie the two areas together, then you could move things around between the two areas for a change of look.

I really like your living room! I would get a larger oriental style rug for the foyer. I would also paint the white door the goldish wall color.
