That's really awful. I'd be tempted to return them, too. Wash and wear has fallen a little out of favor. Shirts with this feature aren't so bad, but the pant are the invention of the Devil. One can't press a new hem into them, no matter what one does. And if a customer asks for a cuff all hope is lost. It just never looks right.

Have you tried Land's End? Usually pretty good quality, and if you can find a style/color that's gone on sale, you're in luck. The only bad thing, I think the only style collar they carry for men is button-down.

I agree. Return them. Its appalling to me the garbage that is being sold to uneducated consumers these days. Not just in clothing. It seems that many, if not most, suppliers are only interested in the next penny rather then pride of service and product. People today EXPECT a washer to fall apart in 3 or four years. My first ones were second hand and lasted up to ten years. Rant suspended...

it's partly the public's fault, for wanting lots and lots of clothes, new every year. Two stories: I read of a woman whose daughter's were amazed when the exchange student they were hosting from overseas arrived with one large suitcase. She had appropriate clothing for every event she attended. Clothing used to be very expensive in France, I had colleague who used to send things to their relatives there.

Story next: a woman who came of age in the late forties/early fifties had a mother who sewed a lot of her everyday clothing. Each year, she asked her mother for some pretty cotton dresses in the latest styles. Each year, her mother would buy some nice wool, and make her a couple dirndl skirts or jumpers. When she finished high school, her mother pointed out that she already had nice clothing to wear to work. Her friend's cotton dresses were worn out. Some of it is that manufacturers are cutting corners, but some of it is that we have come to value newness and quantity over quality.
