The wall paper is not bad it just depends on your personal style. If you don't want to take it down I would say add a very large piece of art, chandelier and buffet as well as more window coverings to break it up (cover it up). Taking it down would be a quick job for a professional if it is just that wall.

Take it down it is hideous IMO.

I don't like it and I think I'd remove it.

Hire a professional and have it taken down. You might be surprised how inexpensive it costs. Get prices from a few contractors. Have the walls primed or painted afterwards to make the job a bit bigger.

What's the colour of the paper. Is it flocked? Texture? Foil?

Wallpaper (if not on the entire house) is an easy DIY weekend job. Cover the floors w/ dropcloths & use warm water with fabric softener added (about a 3 to 1 ratio). Use a spray bottle to soak the area (start w/ one strip at 1st). Leave it on to soak a while, 30 minutes & start to peel.

It will probably take two rounds as there usually is a top layer & an under layer. Be sure to clean the wall after so there is no paste residue left. Then the following weekend you can prime & repaint the clean wall area. Easy peasy!

Thanks all! I am not sure about the texture, I'll have to check next time I'm in there. And I never considered leaving some of the paper as an accent wall.
Any suggestions on what j can do with the room besides use it as a dining room? It looks like it was a bedroom at some point but I don't need a 2nd bedroom right now. I'm a creative type and love a work space but somewhere that isn't a disaster all the time like a true studio. Somewhere that friends can gather. Any samples or ideas are welcome! Thanks :-)

You may need to buy a plastic item like a putty knife to help remove some areas. Don't use a metal one as it may damage the drywall.

You could work with it in a few more current styles - industrial,steampunk, eclectic and bohemian all present well with vintage paper - and better paint colours than are shown. Large and modern artwork would provide some juxtoposition, for a start, and book storage won't look any busier in front of it

You could buy cushions to tie in with the wallpaper.
