First of all, I love your house!! Why don't you try painting it a nice red but don't go over the top with to much of a bright color. Or you could even try getting a window that goes to around the middle of your door, and it will let in some natural light. But, no matter what you do, remember to think about how well the color will suit the rest of your house.

Bring out another of the brick. The orange color or maybe the mortar white?

black for sure. We have a redbrick home and did a satin black~ it stands out without fighting the brick

I agree with black or a deep blue that would give a sharp contrast with the brick.

Again I find myself agreeing with Dytecture. He is very seldom wrong if ever.

What about a pale yellow?

I agree blue or black would look nice... but I lean toward a blue door as that will have more of a pop. More interest for your particular home and the grayish trim. Love the house!

Maybe more of a slate blue to go with the grays in your trim

Black, and if you're leaving the storm in place, don't forget to paint it too. With your overhanging porch you many not need it if your location has mild weather.

I also like the idea of black.. but I would use instead a deep "jungle green" that almost looks black. I would also paint the window boxes the same jungle green. This "green-black" against your brick is a classic.

Thank you all for your ideas! Black was high on my list, but I am intrigued by the dark blue color. So many of the other homes on our street have a black door, so it would be great to be different! Will look into the jungle green idea, too. Haven't thought of painting the window boxes. Thanks!

I think that either the dark blue or a dark olive-gray would be beautiful with the putty color of your trim. Black will also be great, but I totally understand wanting something different.

Black is very traditional but doesn't lend to your house. Blue would really make it pop. Ben Moore has a paint that is called hale navy which has a lot of black in it but really shows Blue. I would also paint it in an Epoxy Finish or some call it an Industrial Finish. It is a very High Gloss and once finished will look like a mirror. If you do the dark colors you get a much better looking finish the higher the gloss. Fine Paints of Europe makes a very high gloss paint but is not very workable especially if you do not paint for a living. We do a tremendous amount of historical restorations in Boston and black is the color of choice or a deep green but in your case blue would work

Just noticed you have a storm door which is very light if not white. No matter what you paint the door the color of the storm is going to ruin the effect a bit
