Possible leak

Hi,

My swimming pool seems to be losing water at a rate different from my neighbors (though my pool is larger than those I'm comparing to; if it matters). I have to fill my pool x2-3/week (30 minutes each time) though we only swim perhaps 1 per week.

I noticed a water spot 10' or so away from my pool on the deck. I thought someone spilled something but it keeps seeping through even after I dry out the spot. It never really gets much bigger than what the photo depicts. Can this be a leak coming from the pool (see photo)?

Even the corner of the wooden stairs seems to be damp. There is no visible leak coming from the rooftop.

I hope not but wonder what else it can be.

Is your pool in the direct sun? Do you keep it covered when not in use? If not, I'd expect 1-2 inches of evaporation daily.

If there is a leak causing loss of pool water, it's most probably in the return line from the pump/filter to the pool. Could that be in the area of that wet spot? Keep in mind that it may not surface exactly at the leak. Is there a basement where you might see signs of excess moisture? What is under that elevated deck? Is the underside accessible?

Yes, it is in direct sunlight for most of the day. I don't use the cover as much as I should. The pool equipment is on the opposite side of that wet spot. I hate to go under the wood deck but I guess I have to in order to find out what this leak can be.

So you don't think it could be coming from the pool?

With one of the damp spots being on the step, I'd suspect something is dripping from above. (Air conditioner condensation; gutter leak?)
