Could it be physical damage? When you were spraying or pruning or doing other maintenance, is it possible that you might have damaged that foliage? I haven't grown black krim, but some tomato varieties have stems that are more brittle and can snap easily. Could also be physical damage from some kind of pest or critter?

First off, I would prune all the lower leaves and see if happens again or not.

Question : are they drying crisp from green ? If yes, it could be some disease. It is happening to some of my plants (CP, in particular).

That same thing happened last year around this time ( temps cooling off and getting some rain !!)

Gorbelly, I suppose it's possible that it's a pest. But I don't know a pest that kills leaf by leaf this quickly--do you? I gave been rather neglectful with the two in pots...they're the extras that popped up from seeds and I planted it because I was too greedy to throw it away. Lol So, no, I haven't pruned them in a few weeks but it's become so sparse there's nothing to prune.

Sey, I can't be 100% sure but I am 85% sure they go from green/okay to dead. I think this because I snip off any affected leaves instantly upon seeing them and am pretty sure I get them all. But then the next day, I have another couple leaves crisped up. Weird!

If the affected leaves go from green to turning brown, to dead along the entire branch very quickly, I agree it is some sort of disease also. And like Sey, I have been battling this on my CP's every year. I thought it might be mold, but there are no spores. Resembles drought damage, but it isn't as all my containers are on a drip system. A fungicide does little to deter it. Progresses slowly until about August for me and then ramps up. Never affects the growing stems until late and the fruit are never affected. Thought it might be timber rot, but fruit continue to grow and ripen (although a lot of sun scald from the lack of foliage near the end) and the plant continues to send out healthy new growing tips for quite some time. Sorry I can't help more to ID this if this is what you are experiencing also.

Like I said before , I have seen that last year. Leave branched dying while green, NOT turning yellow . I have not found out what is/was the cause. I am sure it has not been pest.

I hope that it is not "Gray Mold". This disease attacks also the stems and the fruits.

I have heard of a home remedy for it :

7 oz of regular Clorox per gallon of water.

I will apply it when the rain stops.

Sey, my friends who are growing CP are experiencing this disease also here in NC. I tried a hydrogen peroxide remedy and it didn't help. That is what is baffling, the fruit and stems are not affected.

These two pots were actually a little experiment of mine and looks like the experiment is on me as both pots show the same issue.

This was them on August 25:

They are definitely sparser, also due to my chopping away at it. The one on the left (also the experimental pot) was the one showing this issue mostly, but now the one on the right also displays these leaves. I had found one before, but this morning I found this:

and more on the left one:

And definitely, it goes from green to dead. I had cut off all affected leaves yesterday for sure. So this happened overnight.

This is turning into a "which tomato can grow without any leaves" experiment.

This implies it's contagious, no? I ask, because I have good tomato plants just a few feet away from these pots in the ground. One had tipped over from being too heavy; it's on CP and one BK.

FWIW, I have treated both pots equally for the sake of my little experiment with or without azomite. The ones in the ground also have azomite. The pot only has Pro Mix HP potting mix and a ton of perlite.

Thank you so much, Dave! (And Sey, your guess was right!) I looked it up and it does look and act like that. Just what I needed.

I am nothing if not gung ho, so I will run out and get a copper fungicide right now. I've already trimmed off all the affected leaves and am just waiting for the sun to set and I'll spray. It was, indeed, quite bizarrely humid here this summer, sometimes up to 55% when I checked, and like you mentioned, with my pruning habit (though I really only pruned this plant very little since it was never big and lush), I guess I created the perfect storm.

Just a glorious year for gardening. Bugs and mold!!!!

And, if that does not work after a couple of tries. I'll toss the plants. No big loss since I was only going for one plant. I guess I'll spray down the two big ones next to these pots in the ground as a preventative measure....

Did I ever mention how much I hate spraying? Did I ever mention how I stopped growing a plot full of roses because I hate spraying?

This is the first morning in a week where I haven't woken up to at least a couple dead tomato leaves! Woohoo!

Granted, I may have now killed these plants with how much I took off, as I also went a little nuts. Upon closer examination, I could see which leaves were a "tad affected" by it being really healthy green with a slightly dark grey edge/rim to it. If it had even one, I took off that whole leaf set.

I may not be able to win some kind of "most pathetic tomato plant" contest, but after this and spraying, it has not gotten worse. I used a spray called Liquid Copper Fungicide by Bonide? To be safe, I sprayed down the other two huge tomato plants. It wasn't showing any symptoms yet but....who knows?

I think the tomatoes look normal, not that I've grown BK before.
