Hard to tell if the pods are turning dark or sun burn. They kind of look like Czech Black peppers. They start off green, go to black then red. Look like a Jalapeno in shape and size.

The pods started green, and quickly turned dark purple. They started turning red about 2-3 weeks after going purple. The pods are only about 1" to 2.5" long, and kind of warped/wavy looking (not as smooth and symmetrical as a Jalapeno).

I checked back on the website I ordered the seeds from, and I see they have a Hungarian Black pepper (same as Czech?), and a purple Jalapeno. Both will eventually turn red. The site says the purple Jalapeno is a lot hotter when still purple, and that the Black Hungarian loses almost all heat when fully ripe. I guess a taste test of a purple and red pepper from the plant will give me my answer.

I have grown all 3. They are somewhat similar. The Hungarian black has more of a kick IMO than the purple jalapeno. At least mine did. The purple Jalapeno also does not stay that green color as the pods get bigger. They go direct to dark. It easily could be the Hungarian but it probably is not a purple Jalapeno.
