Master Bath Reveal

last modified: 11 years ago

We remodeled our Master Bath last December because we had a leak in the wall behind our shower and adjoined another tub on the other side. Instead of repairing with 17 year old tile (and we didn't have enough to fix both areas), we remodeled them both.

The tile is Torreon Travertine. 16x16 on the floor with dark polished 2x2 dark Emperador marble. We rain the floor into the closet as well.

Walls are 12x24 running bond. Corner bench is solid Torreon. Shower floor is versailles pattern torreon. Mother of Peal tile on bench face. The grout is quartz and I wish I had used bone on travertine and white on MOP.

Tub is Victoria and Albert Shropshire 6' with PN feet. Counter tops and window sill are 3 CM Coloseuim Granite with eased edge. Cabinets are plain white with glazed finish by painter. Kohler Bancroft toilet and sinks.
Kickboard under cabinets are 3x3 cut Torreon. Baseboards 12 x 4 cut Torreon with 3/4" pencil rail.
Shower bench is 20 deep and 18 inches tall. Brizo bath fixtures in "Charlotte" chocolate/polished nickel. Frameless shower is starrfire glass with PN fittings. Light fixtures and round cabinet knobs from Lowes. Bin pull on hamper and vanity are Shaub & Co 3" Corinthian Collection ancient bronze finish.

Mirrors were what we had already and I painted ORB out of a can and will antique them with Amy Howard at Home waxes and Dust of Ages.

Closet door is still the old cheap brass one because I just got around to ordering them for the bed and bathroom. I will add the only 2 before photos I have.

Holy Moly! That's a stunning bathroom you've created! Love the granite and vanity faucets. I've never seen that faucet before. I have the same floor in my entry only the travertine tile size is smaller. Bone is what we just grouted DH's crema marfil listello with and it blends perfectly. Pretty sure we've used it in all the travertine applications over the years (entry, master bath and kitchen). The only thing I was going to ask about was the mirrors (looking for one for DH's bathroom) and you recycled those! <lol> Enjoy!

What a nice remodel. I really like the removal of the linen closet. It opened up the space. I like your shower space. What are the dimensions? Do you have any problem with water leakage at the door when using the shower head across from the door?

Thank You, Karenseb. My cabinets are original and just painted but we did get all new cabinets for my husband's side. He went from 2 tiny drawers to 6! That linen cabinet was the worst waste of space being deep and only 3 shelves. And DH gained a little more counter space with smaller undermount sinks than those aweful cultured marble shells.

I don't have a good pic of the shower strait on. The shower head is hits the middle of the glass wall. However, the glass man told me that I would need a clear plastic thing on the panel to keep water from coming out the gap between the panel and the door. So, that is what I have. A little water splashes over there, esp when my DH uses the hand held, so if I didn't have the guard, water probably would get out some.

My door only swings out instead of both ways because of it, but I probably wouldn't have swung it in anyway, because I could not have had access to the controls!

Thanks for the info. How wide and how long is your shower?

I love the slipper tub and the curved shower bench. Thank you so much for sharing your pictures and details!

The slipper tub is surprisingly comfortable. I am not a huge bather but I have really come to enjoy soaking. Our prior tub was one of those cultured marble jetted things that took a million gallons of water to fill, just to get the level over your ankle and collected dust. Once our 3 kids were of the age 2 or 3 didn't bathe together, we stopped using it.

With the clawfoot, once you get over how narrow they are compared to the CM gargantuan things, it takes less water to cover you. The DH liked the slipper look better than the traditional CF, and the only thing I don't like is you can't rest your elbows on the side. I need to get a tray that goes across to set my kindle/book on and my wine glass, so I don't have to keep leaning forward and reaching over the side to set something down/pick something up. Other than that, I LOVE it. We went with the composite volcanic limestone tub from V & A and the tub holds the temperature very, very well.

Now, to go clean up and stage the boys bath we remodeled at the same time and post before and after. One more bath to go!
