I always thought you chose the countertop first before the cabinet finish... I am very sorry, but that finish on the cabinets doesn't look like it "goes" with the floor. Can the cabinets be stained in a darker, richer color?

Hello pcmom1, no the floors and cabinets will remain as shown. I've already chosen a counter top but am second guessing and thought I would check on what others thought. Thanks for your comment.

Black will be rustic or browns, with cream, black, green.

Since there is movement in the cabinet and floors, I'd go with a soft white counter that is very simple. And, a simple backsplash like PCMOMS photo.

In my opinion I would definitely go with a contrasting color rather than trying to "match" the colors in the floor or cabinets. Trying to add another element that is similar will make it look "busy" because everything will look similar. I do not know what the rest of the color palette is in your home but I a beautiful stone is Azul Imperiale quartzite and use this coastal rain Beached Frosted glass tile as accent. The contrast with the tones in the wood of the cabinets will be pretty spectacular.

Ok - your floor has yellow and orange tones. Your oak is looking sort of off tone in this photo - i'm sure it doesn't look lavender blue in person. The best advice I can give you is to go with the undertone of the taupe / warm gray that I am guessing the cabinets were intended to be in a solid quartz

going gray quiets everything down, then the stainless and the mid tone gray kitchen will play off the white walls . let the hickory be the star part of it . .you could do the island top in a dark teak finished butcherblock on top of a black island instead to play off the cherry /fir like hickory elements with a deeper shade. Plainer gray elements and quartz counters would allow you to do some white tiles to tie back the the wall choice.

We had the floors milled from a local lumber yard and used all the wood from the hickory tree. We have a wide range of colors in the floor. I chose the cabinets off the more muted tones in the floor.

Our intention is for the floor to take main stage and keep everything else reading neutral. I appreciate all the comments!

woodedparadise- You are welcome. You are correct-only you can see the true colors in the space with the light that exists (and will be put in). That will give you the true color of what you are looking at. Best of luck and please post pictures when you finish!

something solid in color...no soapstone with that floor. both are wonderful but not together.
