You could consider bamboo or an orchid.

How much light does the room get? Do you have pets, or small kids who like to taste? Any allergies? Room for a palm or ficus, or table top only? Hanging? You need to give us lots more info before we can help you.

The room has a lot of light but only from one side of the room. We have grown up kids and a well trained dog. I have inherited from the previous owner two ficus plants, one peace lily, one ZZ plant and one large Pothos plant. As i don't want all the plants in the tiny living room i would ideally like to spread them around the flat. But as i have never kept plants in the bedroom before hence the question.

We have one large bedroom and two smallish bedrooms, lots of dark hallways and the same for the bathrooms. The living room is the largest space in the flat.

If you have mostly indirect light, a large ficus tree, or a fiddle head fig tree would work, closer to the windows. Spider plants and hanging ferns do well. Orchids can work in almost every environment and add color, and are cheaper to replace than fresh flowers. If you take a picture of your space, and know the direction the windows face, your local nursery can help you find the right plants. If you have a black thumb, like so many of us, check out fake palms. They are the most life like and are good forever, with an occasional dusting. Just be sure to place it where you'd put a live plant (no dark corners) to have it look real. I even have a fake orchid in the foyer, because my cats will eat them to the ground. People always ask me how I care for it to keep it blooming! LOL!

As far as I know almost all houseplants are safe. Some are famous for purifying the air by removing toxins. Peace lily is at the top of that list. You might find yourselves breathing better if you have a plant in the bedroom!

Rickster88: LOL! "Mother of tongue"...Freudian slip if ever there was one! It's a Sansevieria or "mother-in-law's tongue" actually. And I agree that it might be a good choice...they don't take a lot of light or water outdoors or in. ZZ plants and Chinese evergreens are also a good choice. Grins!

Peace lily is poisonous to dogs, so unless it's placed higher than the dog can reach, I'd choose something else.

Think Chinese evergreen may be poisonous as well. "Dumb cane" or dieffenbachia, too.
