Note that we obviously have not cut down the entire depth of the sink. We didn't want to ruin the cabinet if we ultimately will need to purchase a new sink.

Lesson learned.... Buy another sink or buy another cabinet! :(

Since you own the sink, and would probably like yo have a kitchen this year...

Extend the cut carefully down to follow the sink outline, leaving a small gap for caulk. Use the material you cut out to create a little filler to glue and pin nail in the void. Once counters come there will be a shadow here to help disguise it.

Did your sink come with a cutout template?

it looks like your sink is slightly wider at the top than it is at the base. Is there a chance the part you cut out fits the top but not the bottom?

@EH- I think that is definitely worth a try. At this point I think I am leaning more towards working with what we got rather than taking a loss on the sink as we know they do not come cheap!

@emily- I'm glad you mentioned the shape of the sink. After you commented I took a picture of the front of the sink and it does look a little more narrow at the bottom. I uploaded some additional pics below.
