You could paint the furniture a black or grey to add contrast to the orange.

Ahhh, the color of sunshine! I like it but would have softened it just a bit. You certainly could find a beautiful grey or taupe to paint the furniture and this project will end up being a beautiful collaboration between you and your Mom. Surprise!, is not always what one wants to hear in their home. You can work with this and make it lovely.

Instead of painting your furniture which is a huge job (and the paint over time does get chipped), what about repainting room - test paint colors before deciding. I have 3 kids and would much prefer to know they disliked the color so we could come up with some solutions. You can make it a mother-daughter bonding day, which she may like! Also, you may go to all that trouble of painting furniture and still not like the look of the room and then you are really stuck. Look at lots of vintage bedrooms on Houzz to see what you like - consider other than yellow as well and you could also think about painting a small piece of furniture - a side table for example in hot pink or turquoise and then bring that color into the room with pillows and use yellow as your accent colors.

Paint it all white or use a faded shade of orange. Or if you don't like orange at all, pick another subtle color.

orange isnt a color to relax in.. it means to eat more..that is why it is a favorite color for Restaurants. bright to burnt orange. actually any orange.

relaxing colors are soft blues, pinks, soft greens, creams,.. white might be to stark. but it is better than Orange on the walls.

It is bright but you could keep one wall as an accent (behind the headboard) and soften the other walls with a soft taupe for serenity and Zen. And some turquoise / black and white / taupe for interest with small splashes of orange in all shades to bring soft modern color to the room. Recover the seat cushion to a modern eclectic print, and check out this headboard for vintage, eclectic and eccentric!
