It is based on a traditional Rumford style fireplace with a granite lintel and throat. We used old brick that has a salmon color to it. The simple mantle design is very traditional for this period and style of house. The wall is finished with hand-scraped tongue and groove boards with a simple bead detail at the joint. Rather than the bake-oven that might have been built in this arrangement, we opted for a wood storage bin.
