Garage siding is what in the office we call "shaggy wall." and in this incarnation it is a randomized combination of cedar 2x4 and 2x6, some of which is smooth, and some rough cut, installed over 1x furring. It's finished in a pretty typical exterior stain sealer - can't recall the brand off hand.
