What a wonderful room & I am in love with the furniture you have. I think I would stay with the light natural wood with a protective finish on the chairs (what a find!). Choose two fabrics for the upholstering: one for the seat & back and another lovely print for the outside of the backs. I think a lovely jewel tone for the plain fabric & a jacobean print in coordinating colors for the backs. Also paint the wainscoting below the chair rail in a rich third jewel tone. I love your style.

I think a fabric that is more timeless would work here, and I think painting the chairs a color is best, but right now you have a lot of color going on, I would suggest a stain to match the table if you plan on keeping everything else in the room as is

Thank you, yes as you see your room in a picture you start to notice things a little differently like how stark white all the trim is.

Mixing wood tones & types goes well with your eclectic style.

There are five shades/types of wood in the room with the floor, so I think I would break up the browns and lightening the room by painting or distressing the chairs white (could also distress the corner cabinet). Select vibrant yellow/blue fabric and reduce accessories on buffet...just need a bowl and a lamp for example - it will feel less cluttered and you an also use the space when needed for entertaining. Down the road you could update the chandelier and paint the lower half of the walls white - might sort of feel like the room below. To lighten even more, you could change your artwork to something brighter. This may not be the direction you like, but I thought it would create a really pretty room and a little less somber - could just be the photos.

I also love the idea of blue fabric, in a shiny satin or rich velvet texture for the chairs. Try to match the deep sky color in your paintings, table runner, and bowl centerpiece. It will complement the yellow/gold wall color too.

What do others think about painting the lower half of the wall white? I'm not sure about the white washed chairs, I'm leaning more toward staining to match the table.
