Ask your local public library if they are getting rid of any. I got several large ones a few yrs ago. I had students in foreign countries so they came in handy. GD had several on her wall but imagine she got them from Ikea.

Check your local auction house. I've seen them at auctions, and if they don't sell, they go into a backroom that is like a retail store and open to the public.

If you can't find on you like, at a cost you can afford, you might look into printing your own via Rasterbator.

I decided to Google IKEA world map and found someone on Amazon that has some new ones for sale HERE.

Perhaps you can find something familiar on Etsy. Many prints and printables are sold.

National Geographic's website has loads of them.

A globe would also be useful, and not reinforce the misapprehension held by so many today that the world is flat. The standard Mercator projection that most of us grew up with is a very distorted view, look into the kind that represent basically a globe-covering taken off, cut, and flattened, rather than the one where the lines of longitude are drawn parallel (hint: in reality they converge at the poles).

A big raised relief (you can also get raised relief globes, but a big map is great for young kids). Great for tactile kids, really useful for understanding topography and geography, which enhances understanding of history, social studies, political science, economics, language, and more. And, using more parts of the brain and body aids in memorization, and encourages connections between topics.

I'll second the globe option for the same reason as Sombreuil, it definitely gives a less distorted view of the planet. I recently used it to explain to her why it was faster to fly to Europe (from the west coast by flying over the North Pole than by flying east.

Not that you couldn't have both a map and a globe.

I've seen some very nice looking maps right on Amazon: Here are scads of them. I kind of like the earthy colored, vintagey looking ones

Kristin, the IKEA map is also on ebay. I think the least amount I saw it for was $190.
