Grow colchicums in San Diego/Zone 10?

Does anyone successfully grow colchicums in San Diego or other Zone 10? I just ordered some online but the grower indicated that they did not think the bulbs would grow well in my zone. If anyone does this well, what are ideal conditions? Is full sun going to be way too hot here? Thanks!
