The picture on the mantle is way too small. You want something that is about 2/3 the width of the mantle, and where you have a vaulted ceiling, I'd go with something with some height.

Try for artwork at least as wide as the fireplace mouth. Take your sofa cushions shopping for best results in added pillows and area rug that can pick up the shades of the new art. I think stationary sheers would be lovely here, and an easy way to add polish to the window area without sacrificing view. Scrim is extremely affordable, and would work well. I will also suggest replacing the small round table with something to store the electronics in. If budget won't allow for extra furniture, consider foregoing additional rugs in favour of side pieces.

Larger more colorful art.

Dominique, I just think you need to add accessories. A larger picture on the mantel, or a large mirror. Maybe a basket of wood , pinecones on the hearth. Colored pillows with a design, and an inexpensive woven shade for you window. Maybe candles for you holders on the mantel. Great room! craftlady

i believe the artwork over the mantle needs to be larger. Are you saying that you want to know about new pillows for the couch? i can see you like tan and red. I will try a few things. The window is a matter of sensibilities, I believe in covering all windows.

I also think a cabinet would be in order for that corner so you have a place for the items you have there, maybe move the table to the other side of the couch?

Yes, that is what my thought would be. Just use the cabinet as a replacement for your end table. this could even be a night stand, those are often very inexpensive. Which pillows were your favs and do you need more or will you reuse what you have with them. because all three lines can be extended. The rug can be handled after. this stuff is more important.

I really like the brown with red. Would it be ok to mix textures and patterns? if I were crafty I guess I could re-cover them.

Hi Dominique. I believe your art work could work. Hang it about 2-3" above the mantel and pull both candlesticks to one side. Add some colorful, chunky candles to give them more color. You could then add the plate that is on the hearth to the mantle on the other side with a plate stand. It looks as though you already have some pillows with print on your sectional. I would place them in front of the solid pillow and then look for one more that coordinates in a lumbar shape for the center of the sectional. Using a small cabinet as an end table to hide those pesky electronics we all must live with is a great idea! Since you have such a good amount of space between your sofa and wall, I'd look for something a little larger than your current table. Find an accessory or two with the red you like to replace one of the objects on your tray of your coffee table to pull some of that color over. Good luck with your project!

Your room is very pretty and the view to die for. For sure leave the windows bare.

There seems to be a decided pink undertone to the whole room, so I'm not sure I'd go with red accessories. Perhaps a deep chocolate, even black.

Dominique, any pictures you like to look at are in style. As for fireplace tools, they're tools; they're not supposed to have style. Don't be too worried about what is in or out. Be concerned with pleasing yourself.

Dominique, it's a pretty room to begin with. My advice to you, especially since you mentioned budget (though didn't tell us what it is), is to use what you have first. I quite like the mantel I styled for you by adding some tall vases and putting candles in the candlesticks.

Go to Home Goods or Pier 1 or World Market and buy every pillow you think will work with the aim to return those that don't. You really have to see them in the space to know for sure. I would aim for rusty reds rather than brights, and try a bit of complementary green for contrast.

A bit of experimentation will get you where you want to be.

it looks like a faded burgundy, beige, taupe, cream and that paler pinkish color - looks like the hot color of the year, Marsala. The design is called Ikat. I think these would go well with the pillows you chose, which means if you keep them you may have enough pillows. What is the hair thing made out of? I am thinking maybe we can improve upon it and use it in some way. chances are someone payed good money for that! How are you on art? I do love the carved panels too.

I like the paisley with your current fabric. The paisley brings in a few more colors but the same saturation and general feeling is there. Do you like the fabric of the current pillows?

The paisley side is rough, the other side is soft almost velvety.

If you're not in love with them, you could always cover them or replace. Your sofa fabric appears to be microfiber and the back of the pillows probably are as well.

So I have been thinking about rapunzel's hair. We can put a ribbon of something else in there and then braid it? we could braid flowers in there. you could put a pair of curtains at the top, so it looks like rapunzel might actually be there. tehehe

Paint the fireplace or clean the brick! Add a large picture or TV about 7 inches from the mantle! Add colorful pillows, and rugs that coordinate to each other. Get new fireplace tool set, and a new fireplace screen. I see birch trees cut and placed in a metal bucket around your fireplace hearth!
