Looking for a perfect paint color

I have a den with knotty pine walls. I am not able to paint the walls, but I've decided to paint the ceiling a pretty green. My floors are golden maple. My drapes are from Pier 1, vibrant paisley which has a navy, orange, gold and green. I would like a pretty mossy color on the ceiling, or possibly a sage green. Does anyone have a favorite go-to green that's a no-fail color. Some that I looked at seem to have too much of a yellow tint. I don't want a teal either. Just a pretty color that shows up nice and velvety, beside my classic knotty pine. Thanks for any suggestions!

Thank you, Donna. We painted it ourselves. We were told to use Kilz (water base) because the knots would "bleed through," and we did have to apply two coats of that and then we applied 2 coats of the Benjamin Moore Revere Pewter and it was worth the several days that it took us to complete the job. I have never really painted before, but I quickly got the hang of it and now I'm really proud that my husband and I saved all of that money. And it's as though we have a brand new house!

If the knotty pine makes the room seem a bit dark, the green ceiling will make it even darker.

Thanks for your comment. I love color and I have been living with this white ceiling for 6 yrs. I don't think painting the knotty pine is an option. My husband has COPD and can't breathe with a lot of chemical exposure. I was thinking just painting the ceiling would brighten add some interest. All the woodwork is the pine color. Could you recommend another color? Or should I just leave it white? I have built-ins on one end, they are painted ivory. I have windows on one side like the picture.

I have a large chiffarobe on one end that I have considered painting...can you recommend a green for that? I can move it outside to paint. Maybe that would break up some of that knotty pine. I like the cozy feeling of the knotty pine but there is just so much of it!

With all the new paints that have no VOCs, I don't see why painting the knotty pine is not an option. I took the time to read 3 articles nd paint was not referenced as a trigger. I assume he will not be doing the painting so I don't see how this is an issue.

We painted our knotty pine and WOW!!! Our dark hardwoods just popped and the texture of the paneling is truly beautiful. My once, very dark family room has become light, airy and updated. Seriously consider painting that knotty pine. We used Benjamin Moore's Revere Pewter...very rich neutral. Good luck! (We used Ben Moore's Bright White for the trim...we kept the white ceiling).

Pardon the not so great quality of the photo...our family room opens up to our kitchen (note the white cabinet). Just wanted you to get a general idea.

The grey is really pretty. When we first moved here, 6 yrs ago, I had a quote on painting and was told the vanish would have to be stripped, then primed and painted. It was more than I could afford. Did you have someone paint yours, or did you do it yourself?

Beverly, I just read the info on the link. Thanks again. I had not done any research on this recently and your link was really helpful. I appreciate the information. FiFi, I do love the soft grey you chose. It does look beautiful with the white trim.
