dendrobium keiki

About a year ago I purchased a dendrobium nobile from Trader Joe's, expecting it to give me flowers and then probably die. It has flourished and now has a 2nd large cane plus a keiki which formed on the primary cane. This keiki is now about 6" long but still has just 2 roots that I can see. I'd like to remove it to pot it up, but doubt that 2 roots will sustain it. Should I wrap some sphagnum moss around its roots to encourage more to form? Or just remove it period? Thanks in advance.
