Improved adobe soil here which holds nutrients well. No additional fertilizer beyond some bonemeal at planting time. However, some years I do broadcast 10-10-10 granules. If I had sandy soil it would be a different story.

Have never, ever, fertilized a bulb planting. If your soil is well draining and of sufficient fertility to grow other plants, they simply don't need it.

They really only need it every 2 - 3 years. However, if you have really poor soil you may want to fertilize 2 years in a row. Are you using lawn food? If you have, then no need for additional fertilizer at all.

I'm with GG48 on this. I don't add additional fertilizer for bulbs planted in a garden or lawn. My bulbs return and increase in size with the exception of a few non-perennial tulips.
