Coretec luxury vinyl

Has anyone used this product? Wondering how it wears and what the upkeep is like. Thinking of using in living, dining and kitchen. Also possibly bedrooms, all on the same floor of our home. We need something very durable and easy to put down.

CoreTec should get the job done for durable and easy to put down. It is a little fiddly (like all vinyls) but should be easier than most. The most important part of your installation = subfloor preparation. This should take up 50-70% of your energy. The flooring is a piece of cake after the subfloor preparation has been completed.

Thank you for your comment. During our brief visit at the flooring company it sounded like there wouldn't be much flooring prep (but we were discussing going over concrete). We we will be pulling up carpeting in living and dining area as well as linoleum in the kitchen, so there must be some kind of prep required. Thanks again.

The flooring store won't be able to offer quotes about preparation until they visit your home. Carpet and linoleum often hide subfloor problems. Coretec, like all snap together floors, likes a VERY FLAT and VERY EVEN surface to go down over. Concrete covered in carpet often has lumps and bumps that are not evident until the carpet/lino comes up.

Don't take a quote seriously until the INSTALLER has walked through the front door of your home. After they inspect the space (should take them 30-60 minutes at least) THEN they will offer a detailed estimate. But always be prepared to have a few things "pop" up. Carpet is known to hide plenty of subfloor issues that MUST be corrected for a floating vinyl to work properly.

Make sure you get the new z locking system the average customer having trouble with a system

Hi - I have a question about Coretec. Is the new z locking style an improvement and possibly more DIY friendly? I'm cautious about using something that is brand new on the market. Also, do you sell the Coretec One line? I don't really care so much about the cork layer, so I figured this could be a good way to save a few $ since I am doing a whole house. I know the wear layer is thinner on the Coretec One, but is going with the Coretec Plus worth the extra money? I am concerned about longevity. Thank you!

Apparently they aren't going to "announce" that they are changing the locking system, however they are beefing it up. If you're ordering, you should ask, cause they are just phasing it in. If you want it, have your flooring dealer make sure you're getting it. My undersanding is the coretec one line is not as thick and doesn't carry the same warranty and is less $. I'm a consumer and haven't bought yet, still investigating. While at the floor store today, they called US floors to find out about the new locking system, that's where I got my info...

Lady dub yeah the new locking system is more sturdy (meaning not as brittle ) easier to lock for average person to install. They've made it easier on locking seams which people were having trouble with. There is kit lowes sales by blue hawk helps a lot and don't use regular hammer use a soft tip mallet with spongy rubber not hard black kind

Thanks for the info Hance! Do you have an opinions on the Coretec One product? Do you sell that also?

If your are talking bout the color line sold by U.S. Floors that's ok option to buy stay away from option made for bealieu not nearly as well made the acacia in coretec one is in my opinion one of the best looking planks and at 2.69sf saves you a little money

Yes, I was looking at the Coretec One in Adelaide Walnut. Is that available in the new z locking system?

  • PRO

Lady dub I think coretec one is still with the same locking system as it had from very beginning I will double check that tomorrow first thing and have you info but if it changed like others then absolutely we can get you z system or whatever their newest locking system is. that acacia I actually like color better than regular coretec plus. Now you know it doesn't have cork or backing attached correct?

I saw the gold coast acacia sample (COREtec Plus Plank) the other day, it's a great color, a nice mix of lighter and darker tones.

Lady dub coretec one is exact same locking system as it started with I was pretty sure there wasn't a change. Just wanted to be sure before I told you

Cam natale Gold Coast is excellent color if you like it check out core Tec one it has in my opinion a better looking acacia (same colors just in my opinion the best looking acacia tile on market) and saves you a lil $ which is always good

Hi - Yes, I know the Coretec One lacks the cork. I'm OK with that. Just wanted to make sure the locking mechanism is as good so there aren't any problems with gaps, buckling, etc.. Does it have the original (a) locking system, the (z) system or is it just a different one altogether?

It's different. similar but made basically of same material they do inner core with so its more durable. And very easy to install

    Lady dub are you

planning to put pad underneath. Cause if not it will be louder echo underneath the flooring. I would recommend a product similar to pad I got pictured called black magic has nice moisture barrier and rubber pad top

Cam natale yeah the change was made almost a month ago to z locking system it's main reason was customers having trouble locking them, breaking do to use of wrong mallet don't know why the video they're using regular hammer need a soft tip mallet when putting together. When you decide on color or if you need sample let me know and I'll send out a piece or love to give a quote

Hi - I'm putting it in a ranch on a concrete slab. Wall to wall except bathrooms. Should I still use a moisture barrier? Am I correct in thinking it can flow through or do I need periodic expansion joints between rooms?

  • PRO

Yeah I would use a thin moisture barrier something similar to vapor barrier or black magic I pictured above. Coretec one still doesn't need expansion joints I would just use tmold/reducers to change direction. Going to bathrooms and any bedrooms. I really like the look of that acacia in this style.. How many sq ft are you needing? Is this where you will be living all year or is this a summer/winter home

I'm doing 1500 SF. It's a year round home. Do you have an opinion on the OmniChoice Vapor Bloc. I would like something that is low VOC like the floors.

  • PRO

Good product but no need to spend the extra money just use their sound solution vapor barrier probably nearly 1/2 price be just as good. When it comes to these Lvt pads it's really overkill all you need is a moisture barrier and the extra you pay isn't going to make a difference really. In my opinion when talking pad underneath Lvt the more cushion more pressure getting put on seams

Hi Hance - Just called US Flooring to ask a few questions. Seems like the kind of thing where every time you talk to a different person, you get a different answer. I was finally told they would be switching to the new locking mechanism on Coretec One, but not until the existing product runs out. I've settled on the Adelaide Walnut. They said they still have 17,000 boxes of the old stock in that color. I don't want to buy enough for my house only to have the new locking system come out right afterwards. Do you think it's that much better that I should wait?

There is new system coming same "z" lock as other core Tec has now. It is better locking system the haven't said when there new product comes in. If it's in I can probably go ahead and get for you I should know 1st thing in the morning. The other system hasn't failed and is still covered under warranty if you want now.

Wow. Thank you so much for the info. Definitely let me know if the new system is in when you find out. Thanks!

I'm curious if anyone has experience using Warmup's electric floor heating system with COREtec Plus Products. I'm researching an electric radiant floor heating system like this: http://www.warmup.com/floor-heating/vinyl-heating/

Hi Lamar. Shelleyjr recommended you. Can you quote rubber backed Ivory Coast Oak from CoreTec for approx 500 sq ft. I live in Phoenix and cork is not suitable Can you email kmarkus00@gmail.com. (Phone 480.444.6025). Thanks

I called US Flooring today to see if the vinyl plank flooring was manufactured in US. It is not. It's manufactured in China. Been trying to find one manufactured in US, but haven't been successful thus far. Anyone know of a company that makes the product in US?

  • PRO

There are a few of the big boys who have just moved their manufacturing facilities to the USA. I don't know if they are up and running yet or if the product on the market (ie. at the show rooms) are the products produced in the USA, but you can start looking at Armstrong, Bruce or Karndean. I believe one of them JUST set up shop. Remember: US made products will have premium price tags. European made products will have premium price tags. If you look for product that is MORE than $3.50/sf, you might find they are made in the USA or Europe. The price might point the way to 1st world country manufacturing. I know our Portuguese vinyl-cork is more than $2/sf more expensive than anything coming out of China.

    It's a place to start.

Thank you Cancork. I expect the price to be higher for US/Canada product.nd accept that.

Lamar, I am still waiting for the samples you promised to send to me about 2 weeks ago. Any idea what the hold up is all about? Could you pls email me? Do you still have the 512 sq ft CoreTec XL Harbor Oak that you emailed me about? Thanks
  • 10 years ago
Hi cam.natale. Are you happy with the CoreTec Plus XL product? How was your experience dealing with Lamar Hance? Is he trustworthy. How much did you pay per sq ft? How much was the shipping? Would appreciate your feedback.

hello kmarkus00, we do like the coretec plus product. my husband installed after we purchased from our local dealer (only one local store carries it). We paid just over $3/sq foot and they delivered it to the house. it looks good down, we decided on hardwood floors (Mirage) in the living and dining room, and put the coretec in the bedrooms. we will insall the remainder over a concrete floor in the basement living area. Good luck!

We are planning to install COREtec Plus XL on concrete floors. Besides using a 6 mil vapor barrier, will installing an additional underlayment provide better support against vertical denting and/or provide better heat insulation ? This is at ground level, i.e. underneath is the foundation.

We are also planning to install COREtec Plus XL Enhanced as floating floor on previously installed vinyl (glued) flooring in our basement. Anything to consider differently here ? Planning the 6 milm vapor barrier here anyway. Many thanks in advance for any pointers.
