I'd try to buy some more non-permanent fixtures, especially ones that could take bulbs with higher wattages. Remember that wattage is not the measure of how bright a light will be! Lumens measure the brightness of a light bulb. (This article explains the difference between the two. I can also help clear things up if it's still a bit confusing.) Anyway, floor lamps are a good idea, especially ones that point light up to the ceiling and spread it all around the room.

Will those two fixtures you mentioned take bulbs higher than 60W? Usually there's a sticker near the screw-in base of the fixture that can show you the max wattage. Do not go over the max wattage, but if you can step up to a higher wattage for those fixtures, do so. If you can't, maybe look to see if you can find 60W bulbs that have a higher lumens number.
