Kitchen backsplash and paint!

Looking at re doing my kitchen backsplash. It's the exact same as the tile on my floor and after 7 years we need a change!!! I also want to replace the kitchen color on the walls. It does extend into a eat in kitchen and porch so would be a larger area. I need light colors, so sick of dark! Lol

What about a solid cream color backsplash with dark brown grout to relate to the cabinets and flooring? I think cream looks better with brown and white better with black so I wouldn't go stark. What are your counters? Can you take a close up photo of them? Do they have any light gray? - Maybe for wall color? I think pale blue would look nice too.

I have a photo saved of this look with dark cabinets and tile with dark grout and I can't find it. I'll search some more tomorrow.

I might look for a cream tile and do a chocolate accent. Your counter looks to be be cream with browns, perhaps on the pink side. I would probably do the walks in cream as well and bring in color with accessories.

Post this in the Kitchen Forum for even more suggestions. I agree with SheelsBack. A lighter color that would pick up the lightest color in your granite.

Then of course, put smaller tiles that are used for backsplashes.

There are so many paint colors. What is your granite?

    What about this for tile?

    and a color like this

This is a close up of the countertop

I would definitely replace the dark blinds in the eating area to lighten things up. For the backsplash I'd use a cream color subway tile making sure the it doesn't bring out any pink in the counter.

Color wise what you have there works. I'm not a fan of using big floor tiles for the backsplash. When you remove the tile, bring a piece with you and try to get a similar color wave, but lighter.

A cream could work, but I think it would be hard to find one that would not look like you are going in another direction.

I think a light beige or cream paint would work to lighter up the space.

Since I see a lamp, I am thinking you don't have under the counter lighting. That could help as well.

Are non-neutral colors off the table? I think light blue or green would look great.

It looks like you have no natural light in the kitchen, right? So if you go light, use a warm color versus cool for the walls. Something like SW Crescent Moon, which is actually considered a white

    Or SW Rice Grain

Before I'd do anything else, I'd remove the dark blinds.

What do you need there in terms of window treatments, i.e. for privacy, cover up horrible view, sun glare?

I probably also would get slipcovers for the chairs.

For backsplash, I'm with Tibb on a warm, very light color.

Yea there's a window in the kitchen, it's all one big open space

the blinds however can't come down, hubby would kill me Hahahah

the stone looks good!! I'm waiting for a quote to see what the cost is gonna be to take down the tile and replace it.

Replace the blinds? Will hubby even notice? Can you open them?

I would like a glass subway for your backsplash, but don't think that color tan is right... I would probably look into a lighter color or something with some color variation... I like the stone/marble subways that are shown above too. there are so many tile choices you could go with!!

a beige paint would look great with your cabinets, counters, floor and dark wood- key would be finding the right shade and only way you can figure that out is by trying samples!

if the blinds stay, I would consider sheerish (or not) panels or something to break up a little of the contrast of the very dark blinds against the very light trim... seems very stark compared to the rest of your kitchen! if no other window treatments are wanted, I would think about changing the color of the window trim, even if you leave all the rest of the trim the same...

Just my 2 cents, but even if you didn't replace the backsplash, I think even just lightening the wall color would make a huge difference. Can't wait to see what you decide.

Def all for the curtains, that's a great idea! I'm going to head to the tile store tomorrow and sign out some samples and try and pick a paint :) thanks' I'll post progress pics!

How about these ? There's so many options!!

Cream with brown grout? This was done in a kitchen with white cabinets tho, however the countertops look quite similar

The blinds are the first thing to be removed! If you need something at the windows you can get very inexpensive drapes that can be opened /closed easily. The natural light makes a huge difference.

The cream with brown grout was what I suggested and that photo you posted is a great example. I still like that idea or picking a warm, but lighter version of your floor tile. I still can't find that darn picture! Out of the tile choices you posted I like the one on the left better because it looks creamier. The one on the right looks like it has a gray undertone.

When choosing curtains would a white curtain with pattern look okay? Something like this?

yes, I think something like that might look nice! ... I would get a couple of different panels- one similar to that one maybe and another that has just a bit more dark in the pattern and see what they look like!

    Before

    After

Now for new curtains and a new light :)

Bought a new light and got curtains. Light is gonna be exchanged, it looks too small to me

looks nice!! wall color seems to be a good choice! agree, light is too small- too short in particular...

    Wow! New color is great!
