Charity Knitting and Crocheting

I know most of you probably already do this, but wanted to ask some new people to remember making winter hats and scarfs for those in need since winter is just around the corner. I always do a bunch for our St. Vincent de Paul Society that gives them out free and last year I made some hats for Country Knitting of Maine. They do a hat-a-thon, I think that's what they call it, every year and distribute the hats to the elderly, the unfortunates, the needy, kids, etc. Last year they had over 500 hats submitted. They also have prizes for the best hat in several categories. I don't live in Maine, but when I first heard about it, I thought that's a lot colder than where I live so I can contribute. I am starting on mine now.

I volunteer at a thrift store and all the proceeds go to our local SPCA, some of the wool that is donated to the store, I will bring home and make afgans for the shelter, or some of them we sell, I also make dish cloths out of the cotton yarn. One year I made scarfs but they didnt sell very well, and we were only charging $3.00 a piece..

Christine, that is such a wonderful thing to do. I have donated to our humane society which is a no kill shelter. And our local grocery will donate a percentage of your purchase to a local charity and mine is always the humane society. Those animals have to depend on us to take care of them. As far as I'm concerned, if anyone contributes to the two legged or four legged, they are a good person. You contribute a lot.

Thanks bcskye, our grocery stores donate to our shelter also, which is a huge help. Our little thrift store made over $100. K for them last year and thats all due to donations from the public, I love working there. You contribute alot also and that makes you a real good person too!!!
