Looking for input on paint colour

Our cottage has an open concept kitchen/dining room/ living room with a vaulted natural pine ceiling and natural pine window and door casings. We have to repaint because we are having new windows installed and, in any event, always wanted to change the green paint that was there when we bought it. We expect the kitchen (which we don't wish to change or re-paint) will dictate the wall colour in the rest of the room. The cabinets are off-white, which I would describe as ecru. The countertops are Formica Travertine laminate (looks just like the real thing). The floor is pine with a walnut stain. We will probably replace and paint the window and door casings and the baseboards. We are toying with the idea of matching the wall and woodwork colour to the cabinets or going a few shades darker (but not too dark as things are already heavily shaded by trees and not a lot of natural light gets in) than the cabinets on the walls and matching the paint on the woodwork with the cabinets. Any input would be much appreciated. We are not opposed to painting or putting a wash on the ceiling but would prefer not to as we will be doing this ourselves and it is a real chore.
