I don't see the angle as being an issue because the top can angle while all lower lines are horizontal, but the window to the right of the fireplace is an issue in doing wall-to-wall built-ins.

Thanks, Elle! Yes, I thought about that and was thinking of ending the built in a few feet before the window and maybe stick a fiddle fig leaf tree right there. Or will that look weird?!

I think a better option would be a large piece of vertical artwork above the console and a good-sized upholstered chair on either side.

From the pictures you posted, I don't really notice the angled wall, but if you do place built-ins on the wall I think you are talking about, they may protrude out past the window in the corner next to the fireplace and block the light from coming in. The built-ins will not be able to be very deep and may end up looking awkward.

I think your space is really pretty. Why not find a great piece of art to place on the wall above the console and perhaps 2 chairs on each side? Or, I love the idea of making the space a conversation area similar to the pictures posted by auntqueenie.

I don't see built ins being an option because of the window at the fireplace. I wouldn't place anything that reinforces what IMO is a very awkward angle for the room. If you can't straighten out the wall, a sideboard and art is about the only reasonable solution. No upper bookcases that will accentuate the angle again and again.

I agree with the other commenters that it will be difficult to add a built in that enhances your lovely (!!!) space. I would leave the wall alone and put two nice chairs there.

Thank you everyone! My one issue is that I need storage because I also opened up the kitchen to that space and now really need storage for china and other non-frequently used kitchen items. I'd also like to have a bar somewhere and don't have any book storage hence why I was looking at builtins.

Sorry but the built-ins will look strange on the angled wall. You will throw off the whole room mainly because of the window as elle noticed. By adding shelves you'll cause the angle to look even more pronounced.

Your inspiration photo looks nice but it's a totally different situation.

well fist of all, built-ins don's solve any storage problems, and only make you display a bunch of useless stuff (dust collectors).

If you wanna have more storage buy a bigger sideboard (or 2)

my first thought totally forgetting about your need for storage: 2 chairs with arms that can be used at dining table head and foot, creating a small sitting area. that views the fireplace and window. sorry.

Yeah, if you want storage, I'd either put a hutch on that wall (by itself in place of the console, or behind one of the chairs) or a narrow efficient pantry-style cupboard on the short wall on the right (across from the window) -- if it was white, it would basically disappear, hold low-frequency items, and let you decorate the rest of the room as described above. You could also replace your stocky console table with a wider buffet chest of the sort that could hold lots of items of the sort you describe -- the space is deep enough that I think you could essentially put your chairs semi in front of it if needed (at least on the right).

If you can't find a really large sideboard, you might consider constructing one out of white kitchen cabinets -- just the lowers. It would look appropriate because of the height, could be used as a buffet, and could have at least half that wall of drawers and cabinets. Plus, you could put a glamorous stone top on it in a style you had to pass up in designing your kitchen. :) Or just use a matching piece of wood. Anyway, I think because it would be passing as furniture (and you could get legs rather than a toekick), rather than a built-in, you could get away with it stopping short of the wall (and window) on each side, and you could still hang a picture above it, put your lamp and so forth on top...

Thanks, everyone!!! You guys are awesome and are saving me some money!!! Okay, I must admit that I have this thing with builtins and am just obsessed with them. But, alas...maybe I'll just have to let it go. But I do like the idea of maybe doing smaller ones on the little walls opposite the windows next to the fireplace, where that orange art is hanging. Thoughts? Is that what you were thinking S&A Decor? And I do like the idea of a big sideboard or just making one out of lower cabinets...buy would that look weird being at an angle as well? I have super white quartzite in the kitchen which I love...but I don't know if I would put it there as well...

Another thought for that wall is to make it a gallery wall?? Or would that make it more obvious that the wall is at an angle as well!!! Thanks!!!
