Need help with kitchen appliances

last modified: 10 years ago

We have decided to remodel our kitchen and have agreed on the types of cabinets and the new flooring. The problem that we are having is on the new appliances. I like the new slate or gray color that is out now, but my spouse likes stainless steel. He says that the stainless steel will stand the test of time and be in style for years. I think the stainless steel is too cold and seems industrial. Can you help us with this? The majority wins.

Slate gray would be my choice for practicality, and I don't see it as a trend .. like the arctic white that's out now .. or the new bisque.

Slate gray by a landslide. White is ugly, black is cheesey, and stainless is a brat. jmho!

Slate is only made by GE. And not in any of the better models like Monogram. It will go away as soon as Electrolux completes their purchase of the company. White. Black, and stainless have all been around since the 50's. And they will always be available.

Remember copper tone? Harvest gold? Oil rubbed bronze? Atlantis blue? Ivory? (Not bisque!) Didn't think so. All anyone really remembers is how hideous avocado green is in retrospect.

I always liked the almond color since it seemed to go with almost everything. My mom had the harvest gold collection of everything in the kitchen and we laugh now when we see any of the old pictures. I could never afford a Monogram refrigerator and oven and Electrolux appliances are too expensive for my budget too. But I can always dream.

That's exactly what I said. Thank you. So far I am winning. Yeah gray!!!

Just be aware that the life of kitchen appliances today is under 8 years. If you have to replace a slate appliance you may not find that finish. No a big deal if you don't care if the appliances match. And if it's only one manufacturer that has that finish, you may not be getting the best quality for your money. It's best to buy the best quality appliance you can afford, regardless of manufacturer, ie LG fridge, Bosch dishwasher, GE stove (examples only, not advocating any brand) and get each in the same or similar finish. I vote stainless, as that is easiest to match.

I never encourage my clients to buy appliances according to a specific color rather according to what they need from each. So stainless no matter who makesit works with all other companies so stainless is my vote

I think they have an easier care stainless out now. Maybe that would be okay.

Kitchen aid also has a slate black out, kind of a cross between black & stainless. But if you dont like the industrial or commercial look then you won't like their new models.

We bought the slate fridge, stove and dishwasher one year ago and couldn't be happier. The dw is very quiet and all work and look great. The color works great with ss too if you wanted the Bosch dw or the finish is not available in a few years.
