Need suggestions for Euryops replacement

Hey everyone

So our Euryops brush at the corner of our land (around 3'x3') is pretty much dried up and mostly dead (or atleast 70% dead).

Considering getting it removed (see the pics attached) and the gardener has recommended (Rhaphiolepis or Pittosporum 'Wheeler's Dwarf or a replacement Euryops itself. A few questions about that:

1. They said they'd be planting a 5 gallon replacement shrub which would eventually grow out into the size it is now, I am not sure how long that would take so I don't have an empty spot there for too long.

2. If you have any recommendations for a replacement shrub that would be much appreciated! A nice colorful replacement is what I am hoping to place here.

3. Not sure where this pink flower plant sprung up from but it looks nice, any idea what it is? I'll try to take clearer pics later, turned out a bit fuzzy.

Those Euryops are very old and gnarly. They are more sub-shrubs than shrubs and are not long lived. The pink flower is Centranthus ruber. Where I live it is essentially a weed. But in some places, where it is harder to grow, it is prized. You don't say where you are situated but clearly somewhere mild so C ruber might be a problem for you. Invasive plants of the US

I don't particularly favor any of the gardener's suggestions :-) All rather ordinary, IMO. How about a dwarf manzanita? Native to the area, suited to dry conditions, produce flowers that hummingbirds like followed by red berries. And attractive bark and often very sculptural growth habit. I'd look at Arctostaphylos 'Sunset', 'James Roof', 'John Dourley' or 'White Lanterns'. All can take some pruning if growing too wide over time.
