How to tone down peachy granite?

Our house has a lot of this peachy/ orange gray granite. It is everywhere: kitchen, laundry, all bathrooms, wine bar etc. Everytime i try to select a paint color for each room I run into this granite. I feel like I am limited in my decor and paint selection because almost every room has some of this pink granite and i am having a really hard time finding paint that doesnt add even more yellow/ orange to the room but yet still coordinates with it so that it doesnt stick out like a sore thumb. I have so far settled on wheeling neutral by nejamin moore to try to bring out the smoky brown in it without adding yellow. However at night this color looks very gray and muddled. It seems to clash with my dark wood kitchen cabinets. so im back to square one. What would you recommend for paint if replacing the granite is not in the budget right now?

To neutralize a color, you use a stronger version of it to fool the eye into not seeing the undertones. In other words, a terra cotta shade would make peach tones disappear.

I agree, terra cotta would work and be beautiful because it is a beautiful color!

I would look for the right grey and test a few of your top choices and would suggest a grey that had a brown undertone, such as Doily in the attached link (top row, far right). I think Wheeling Neutral has too much pink in it. In other rooms, you could go with a stark linen color.

I'm thinking a color with brown undertones too.

I did forget to mention that it is an open concept home so the kitchen spills into living and kitchen nook. This just complicates things a bit hecause i would most likelt have to paint a very large area this color. I have been hesitant to pick something too dark because the space is large, north facing and shadowy to begin with. Im looking into a sample of doily by BM to see how dark it looks in the space. Thanks!

I agree with live wire oak. When you have selected the color you like for the kitchen, work off the paint strip of that color to give you some variety in your color scheme -- perhaps an accent wall in a darker shade in small areas, with large expanses in the lightest tone and mid-tones for the bathrooms. Paint foam core boards and move them around to see what pleases your eye.

For the terracota suggestion, what saturation/shadr wgere you considering? I just dobt want to add more pink to the room. Trying to think of how it would look.

Terra cotta can be very strong and you may end up with strong wall color and strong countertops. When considering color, don't let the counter top sway you too far - I think a neutral is a better solution and easier to live with. You may want to look at kitchens with terra cotta walls to see if you like that look.

If you don't have a fan deck from Benjamin Moore, it would help to pick one up. Try to narrow down your choices to 3 or 4 shades you like. Then, go to the paint store and discuss your problem with a color consultant; he/she will be able to tell you what the base color is. He/she may also suggest some colors to try. Buy a few samples and proceed with the foam core. Don't try to guess how the paint will look; it doesn't work!

Oh and if anyone knows what granite this is, if its baltic brown or something else, that would help me look for pics in houzz too! I live in houston texas. Seems to be a common choice in some houses around here. Didnt know if it was local?

    Hi---

live_wire_oak is right-----but your cabinetry color allows for more possibilities---...

Check BM's Baja Dunes, Ashen Tan, and Cabot Trail. Also, SW's Dormer Brown and Dhurrie Beige...

Hope this is helpful. Good Luck!

Would you recommend any of these as a whole home overall color over another? There are very few spots in the layout where i could stop and start a new color because of the open concept plan...

The only color that calms peach is taupe. In addition to the other Benjamin Moore taupe colors that were specified look at Stone Hearth 984 and Indian River 985.

    Good luck!

Violeta-yes, absolutely these colors could be used throughout your home.

Click on the link below to see the BM colors I suggested. I recommend picking up 3-5 of each color chart and checking them in your space-then narrowing it down to those you'd like to sample. :))

Another color to look at is Benjamin Moore Lady Finger 1045 which has orange/yellow undertones. It works well with the granite and cabinets and will bring some freshness to your kitchen.
