How scary would that be? I am amazed she was able to pull safely off the road and wait for police to arrive. I'm pretty sure I'd be hyperventilating and passing out or something. She deserves a medal for staying calm and not wrecking the car.

I don't know that I would have died right there, but I would have been petrified at how much that snakebite was going to hurt me! She did a great job of staying calm and not making a move that agitated the snake. Did you notice that it basically just wanted to go hide in the glove box and get away from her? What a relief!

Still, if I was going to be bitten by a common venomous snake and there was no way to avoid it, I'd be grateful it was only a copperhead and not a rattlesnake or a cottonmouth. The bite from a copperhead is less dangerous and you can recover from it more easily in general. As venomous snakes go, copperheads are shy and retiring and would rather flee than fight. Chris and I have stepped on them in the past without being bitten. Even a timber rattler would rather slither away and not have to waste their venom on us (or I likely would have been bitten several times by now) but diamondbacks seem a lot more aggressive, and timber rattlers would rather get in a standoff and just wait for you to leave....while you are waiting for them to leave.

That just makes me sick to my stomach! When I was in high school someone put a dead black snake in my car. On the drivers side floor. I didn't notice it till I was on the road. If I hadn't been able to see that it was dead, I wouldn't be here today. I can't even imagine this!
